An exciting opportunity in a dynamic working environment learning to Program, set and operate a range of Computer Numerically Controlled multi-axis lathes and Sliding Head machinery. You will manufacture precision parts in ferrous and non-ferrous metals

Duties will include:

  • Learn how to programme CNC Mill/Turning machinery
  • Learn to set and use CNC Mill/Turning machinery
  • Work on pre-production and production components
  • Learn about a range of machining strategies to increase accuracy and productivity
  • Learn to identify the best way to manufacture parts creating effective and reliable programs
  • Programme a range of multi-axis CNC Mills
  • Programme Mill-Turning machinery with driven tooling and milling functionality
  • Learn to set a range of cutting tools including unique modified cutters
  • Learn to self-inspect complex parts using mechanical inspection equipment

  • This apprenticeship will be one of the new improved Advanced Manufacturing Apprenticeship Standards

Skills required:

  • You will have a good level of dexterity hand skills
  • Demonstrate an interest in contributing towards manufacturing mechanical assemblies are desirable
  • You will have good hand to eye co-ordination and hand skills
  • Your logical approach to problem solving will enable you to perform to make a good contribution to all aspects of the job
  • You need to be able to learn through instruction and experience.


Personal qualities

  • Your motivation and drive are the assets that will be best appreciated. 
  • You will need good communication skills as you will develop into a role where the ability to communicate on a technical level with peers and management is a crucial skill
  • You will need to be open minded and willing to develop your knowledge and skills to support your future development


Qualifications required

  • 3 GCSE's at grade C or above (or equivalents) to include Maths and English are essential
  • Additionally a science or engineering qualification is highly desirable
  • Any CAD/CAM experience/qualifications will be looked upon favorably


  • 22 days paid holiday and 8 statutory days holiday
