Duties will include:

  • You will work safely at all times
  • Learn how to manage the running and resourcing of the UK materials testing laboratory
  • Help to manage projects relating to materials development to set timescales, by controlling directed aspects of the scheduling of activities by other departments. This includes documentation, trial reports and any testing requirements, both internal and external.
  • Learn how to conduct physical and chemical analysis of current and new paper and plastic raw materials, competitor and internal products.
  • Develop and document testing protocols
  • Learn to read existing SOPs and undertake risk assessments when required
  • Learn how to maintaining service and calibration contracts, sourcing new equipment, and maintaining the Materials Laboratory to 5S visual standards.
  • Assist in the maintenance of a supplier assurance process for raw materials ensuring that all compliance documentation, development and approval documentation and ongoing conformity of the raw materials is regularly reviewed.
  • Provide technical quality testing support for non-routine quality testing related to product functionality.
  • Provide technical support to UK Production, NPD, Quality and Sales organisations and in issues related to materials.
  • Provide technical quality testing support for non-routine quality testing related to product functionality
  • To escalate material related problems/issues arising to the relevant manager(s) in an appropriate and timely manner.

  • The company is located in Rowner Gosport you must be able to get yourself onsite, on time, reliably

Skills required:

  • Good communications skills are required as this job entails daily contact with all personnel and Managers
  • Must have a strong awareness of health and safety considerations and able to work in both a laboratory and shop floor environment.
  • You need to be focused, self-driven and possess a ‘can do’ attitude,
  • You will need good written communication skills enabling you to complete reports requiring accurate and detailed entries.
  • A methodical approach to problem solving and testing is required
  • Awareness of health and safety considerations.

  • Once trained you will be able to work effectively when supervised, with the flexibility to work on your own initiative when required
  • You will be punctual, reliable and responsible
  • You will be well organised, good at planning ahead and able to meet deadlines
  • You must be willing to work flexibly in respect of requirements of the post

Qualifications required

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent  in Math’s and English at Grade B
  • A levels in a Chemistry, Physics and Maths will be looked upon favorably
  • Previous experience working in a testing environment BTEC in Science or Engineering qualification will also be looked upon favorably
