This is an exciting opportunity to work in a industrial environment learning how to MIG weld and fabricate assemblies. Learn to use MIG and spot welders, guillotines, folders, rollers. You will also use drills, riveting equipment on variety of materials.

Duties will include:

  • You will be trained to weld a range of materials using MIG (Metal Inert Gas)
  • You will start by learning basic skills to the required standard, this will include cutting material, cleaning parts ready for welding and tack welding assemblies to the required levels of accuracy
  • You will learn how to set up the correct power (parameter) settings, select the consumable to weld different joint types
  • You will also learn how to fabricate assemblies using guillotines, folders, rollers and spot welding equipment
  • Once you have mastered these skills you will work independently MIG Welding and fabricating assemblies in a range of materials including RSJ’s, Box Section
  • Your aim over time will be to achieve a high quality weld that will pass surface and internal inspection
  • You will also learn how to manufacture ductwork for heating, ventilation and Air Conditioning systems
  • Site safety is of paramount importance to Harrison, you will complete a period of off the job training as well as a Harrison specific health and safety induction before learning how to use the equipment on site
  • Attend PETA and complete coursework on time and to the required standard.
  • Take on additional responsibility at the end of year 1.

Skills required:

  • A good logical approach to problem solving.
  • Awareness of health and safety issues regarding working in dynamic work environment.
  • A good level of dexterity and skills using hand tools is desirable.
  • Ability to become an integral part of the team.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to plan activities identifying possible problems in advance.

 

Personal qualities

  • You will need to be focused, self-motivated, trustworthy and have a team player mentality.
  • You must be self-disciplined and possess a willingness to help the team achieve department targets.
  • An ability to understand and act on technical information is desirable.
  • Willing to work flexible locations and hours including undertaking shift work in the apprenticeship.

 

Qualifications required

  • 2 GCSEs at grade C or above (or equivalent in maths and English) are desirable but not essential.
  • Qualifications or experience in engineering (specifically manufacturing) are highly desirable.
