An exciting opportunity to learn about all aspects of metal finishing. You will develop your existing chemistry knowledge and skills to support the successful operation of the plating and surface finishing work, meeting industrial/military specifications.

Duties will include:

  • Learn how metals are prepared for finishing
  • Conduct laboratory validation activities to meet quality and auditing standards 
  • Complete chemical analysis to ensure that the process will be successful
  • Learn about a range of finishing strategies to increase accuracy and productivity
  • Learn to program the new fully automated plating lines to finish parts to industrial and military specifications
  • Learn about all of the finishing processes conducted on site including Chromic Anodising, Passivation, Alochroming, Zinc Plating, Manganese Phosphating and Zinc Phosphating
  • You will also learn about the other finishing activities undertaken on site including bead blasting, metal spraying, Painting and non-destructive testing

Skills required:

  • Good communications skills are required as this job entails daily contact with all personnel and Managers
  • Must have a strong awareness of health and safety considerations and able to work in both a laboratory and shop floor environment.
  • You need to be focused, self-driven and possess a ‘can do’ attitude,
  • You will need good written communication skills enabling you to complete reports requiring accurate and detailed entries. 
  • A methodical approach to problem solving and testing is required 
  • Awareness of health and safety considerations

  • Your motivation and drive are the assets that will be best appreciated. 
  • You will need good communication skills as you will develop into a role where the ability to communicate on a technical level with peers and management is a crucial skill
  • You will need to be open minded and willing to develop your knowledge and skills to support your future development

Qualifications required

  • 5 GCSE's at grade C or above (or equivalents) to include Math’s and English and Chemistry are essential
  • Additionally an A level in Chemistry, Btec in science (or similar) is highly desirable
