This is an exciting opportunity to support the transducer design team in the manufacture of prototypes, including general sensor assembly work, testing, tool design, packaging and support the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process

Duties will include:

  • Learn about the research and design teams activities
  • Support the transducer design team in all aspects of the manufacture of prototypes.
  • Conduct the testing of samples, presenting objective meaningful reports
  •  Develop knowledge of piezoceramic applications
  • Support the manufacture and testing of samples with tooling design where required
  • Suggest, design and implement tooling improvements in transducer assembly lines to improve yield and productivity
  • Support New Product Introductions with custom tooling, jigs and fixtures, machines and test software
  • Contribute towards the 5S of their working area
  • Train operators
  • Learn how to apply Business Improvement Techniques to a range of applications
  • Monitor processes and learn how to apply problem solving tools including root cause analysis
  • Identify cost effective interventions to solve production problems
  • Get involved with a range of projects working collaboratively with the manufacturing engineering team

 Other information:

  • You will need to be able to get yourself reliably to Ceramtec’s Southampton site

 You will be required to attend PETA’s Havant training centre for off-the-job training.  The majority of your development training will be completed with your employer at your place of work. You will be employed whilst you are completing your apprenticeship this will include 18 months of day release training at PETA Ltd where you will complete your Level 2 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence) qualification. This will include:

  • Producing components using hand fitting techniques  
  • Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety 
  • Working efficiently and effectively in an engineering environment
  • Using and communicating technical information
  • Conducting business improvement activities
  • Maintaining mechanical devices and equipment                       
  • Maintaining electrical equipment/systems                                
  • Maintaining electronic equipment/systems                   
  • General turning, milling and welding applications                     
  • Producing CAD models (drawings) using a CAD system

 You will then pass through the foundation Gateway and progress onto your Level 3 development programme and complete:

  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Technical Knowledge)
  • EAL Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence)

Skills required:

  • You excellent communication skills will enable you to develop into a role where the ability to effectively communicate on a technical level with peers and management is crucial.
  • Your logical approach to problem solving will enable you to make a good contribution to all aspects of the job
  • Have a good level of IT literacy, competent using MS Office
  • Have excellent manual dexterity

 Qualifications required:

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent (inc Maths, English, Science – preferably Physics or Chemistry) at Grade C or above
  • Any Engineering qualifications will be looked upon favourably
  • “A” level’s in Maths or Science will be looked upon favourably
