You will be building test & simulation equipment for a range of markets including military applications. This will require good manual dexterity and attention to detail with the ability to undertake testing and complete technical documentation.

Duties will include:

  • Build, integrate and test a range of standard electronic assemblies for defence applications
  • Work on one-off builds and prototypes as required
  • Complete all associated paperwork for given tasks
  • Liaise with the Production and Test Manager regarding production priorities and progress
  • Liaise with the Senior Lab Technician and other Technicians on build and technical matters.
  • Test finished and repaired products following defined test procedures
  • Test third party supplied  printed circuit boards to defined test procedures
  • Develop manufacturing and maintenance test cables and jigs
  • Maintain test equipment and procedures
  • Introduce and assist in the development of new production test procedures and equipment
  • Assist in Supplier improvement activities

 Other information:

  • The company is located in Hamble (Southampton) you must be able to get yourself onsite, on time, reliably

You will be required to attend PETA’s Havant training centre for off-the-job training.  The majority of your development training will be completed with your employer at your place of work. You will be employed whilst you are completing your apprenticeship including 18 months of day release training at PETA Ltd where you will complete your Level 2 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence) qualification. This will include:

  •  Producing components using hand fitting techniques           
  • Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety 
  • Working efficiently and effectively in an engineering environment
  • Using and communicating technical information
  • Conducting business improvement activities
  • Maintaining mechanical devices and equipment                   
  • Maintaining electrical equipment/systems                            
  • Maintaining electronic equipment/systems               
  • General turning, milling and welding applications                  
  • Producing CAD models (drawings) using a CAD system

You will then pass through the foundation Gateway and progress onto your Level 3 development programme and complete:

  •  BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Technical Knowledge)
  • EAL Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence)

Skills required:

  • Your excellent communication skills will enable you to develop into a role where the ability to effectively communicate on a technical level with peers and management is crucial.
  • Your logical approach to problem solving will enable you to make a good contribution to all aspects of the job
  • Have a good level of IT literacy, competent using MS Office
  • Have excellent manual dexterity

 Qualifications required:

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent (inc Maths, English and Science) at Grade C or above
  • Any electronics qualifications will be looked upon favourably
  • Any Engineering qualifications will be looked upon favourably
