This is a unique opportunity to join a friendly and busy Opticians in Portsmouth. The business is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and ambitious person who has a genuine interest in eye care and customer service and a drive to progress within the business.

Anne Gill Eyecare is an independent community optical practice, based in North End, Portsmouth. They aim to provide you with a level of expertise and personal service that you simply cannot get from the big chains. Duties will include:

This is primarily a customer service role, being the first point of contact for customers coming through the door and providing an excellent service to throughout their time with Anne Gill Eyecare. There is a particular need to observe patient confidentiality.

You will be using Optisoft, Practice management software for Opticians.

Optisoft Tasks:
  • Making appointments for customers ensuring the right appointment is given for the customer, with the right member of staff
  • Clinic Set-up
  • Sending appointment reminders via text and telephone
  • Clinic finishing
  • Cash Module
  • Optisoft problem solving
Other tasks
  • Making appointments
  • Answering the telephone
  • Call-Handling
  • Knowledge of working practices
  • Greeting customers in a warm and friendly manner
  • Dealing with Petty Cash
  • Reconciling NHS paperwork
  • Contact lens delivery
  • Ordering Lenses
  • Spectacle delivery
  • Dealing with the post
  • Taking payment for services
  • Keeping the work area clean and tidy
  • Using a computer using email, spreadsheets and word processing programmes

Skills required:

  • A willingness to learn and progress within the eye care industry
  • Good attention to detail
  • Accuracy skills are key in this role
  • Empathy skills


Personal qualities

  • Good with people and the ability to make people feel at ease
  • The ability to think on your feet and take the initiative


Qualifications required

  • 5 GCSE’s including Maths, English and Science at grade A*-C or equivalent


  • 20 days paid holiday and 8 statutory days holiday
