As an Apprentice Support Engineer, you will be helping to deliver technical support to our customers, working remotely on installed systems, and monitoring sensor data. You will be required to provide support solutions to both internal and external stakeholders. You will be reporting to the Service Manager, and other stakeholders will include the Project Engineers and Customer Programme Managers.

Duties will include:

  • Using a variety of software applications and online tools to monitor ship sensor data and report any technical/data reliability faults to the correct department for action.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders internally and externally and maintain records to ensure that support tasks are completed in a timely fashion.
  • Identify patterns in support actions and work with Project Engineers to find long term reliable solutions.
  • In addition to these duties the post holder may be required to carry out such other duties as
  • May reasonably be required, from time to time, to achieve the above job purpose.

  •  Some flexibility on start / finish time if necessary

Skills required:

  • To have completed a Level 2 Qualification in a related subject (IT) would be an advantage
  • Good knowledge of computer software (Microsoft, databases, etc.)
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills

  • Friendly with an ability to build strong working relationships with team members
  • Ability to communicate effectively by telephone (speaking) and email (written)
  • Willingness to learn and progress through the programme  
  • Confidence i.e. to speak up, be talkative and share ideas
  • Outgoing with a good sense of humour
  • Enthusiastic

 

Qualifications required 

  • Preferred GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths grade A* - C (5 – 9)
