A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an Administrator Apprentice to join a company with 50+ years of service to the technical textiles industry. Working both in the retail space and office, the Administrator Apprentice will gain experience in purchasing, invoicing, accounting and deliveries. There is the potential for a full-time permanent position to be offered to the suitable and successful candidate upon completion of the apprenticeship.
The Administrator Apprentice will be working in the retail shop floor and back office. Duties will include:
Purchasing and invoicing
Order processing (in the shop, over the phone and via the webshop)
Booking and packing deliveries
Taking phone messages
Using the internal accounts system
Other general administration duties
Solent Sewing Machines, a family business, was opened in the 1960s to service the local clothes manufacturing industry. The company is now in its 4th generation! Times have changed but their ethic remains the same, to make customers the priority in everything that they do and to supply the best quality and most reliable service and machines. Solent have produced hundreds of long arm machines for sailmakers, tent / marquee manufacturers, cover makers as well as many other sectors. Solent also now manufacture their own range of machines and are a retailer for fabrics and accessories.
It is essential that the Administrator Apprentice is comfortable communicating both on the phone and in person. Other essential qualities include:
Polite and professional
Keen to learn
Strong computer skills; experience using MS Office
It is desirable for applicants to have:
An interest in sailing, sewing or textiles
Experience in a customer service role
GCSEs in maths and English with at least a grade C / 4 are required
Family owned and run company

20 days holiday plus Bank Holidays
1-week office closure over Christmas
There is the potential for a salary increase once the Apprentice has been employed for a few months if they show good skills and require less supervision.
There is the potential for a full-time permanent position to be offered to the suitable and successful candidate upon completion of the apprenticeship.
Training to be provided
Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship Standard.
You will complete a 15 month apprenticeship which includes 10 days at the PETA training centre in Cosham.
You will be supported every 6 weeks with visits from your PETA Learning & Development Coach.
