PETA Ltd are looking to source an exceptional Welder / Fabrication Apprentice for our client, Solent Marine in Hayling Island. If you want to develop a career in engineering and would like to become a welding specialist, this apprenticeship could be ideal for you!
As a Welder Apprentice, you will learn how to fabricate and weld assemblies, extrusions and structural components e.g. Channel, H-Beams, I-Beams etc. You will be cutting materials using powered tools and thermal processes preparing then for assembly and welding operations. You will learn manual arc welding process including Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG), Manual Metal Arc (MMA) and Metal Inert Gas (MIG) using materials like Carbon Steel and Stainless Steels.
Joining our team as a Welder / Fabrication Apprentice, you will take on a hands-on role that involves a range of tasks. These will include preparation, cutting and grinding and welding and fabrication.

Since 1991 Solent Marine have developed the engineering and design capacity to handle any project and as one of the only Floating Pontoon Manufacturers still to build all of their products in house they are in complete control of the quality and delivery.

You need to be able to learn through instruction and experience
2 GCSE's at grade C or above (or equivalents) to include Maths and English are essential.

Training to be provided
This position is offered as an apprenticeship and you will be completing a Level 3 Engineering qualification. You will be employed directly by the client but be support every step of the way by PETA.
Throughout the duration of the Apprenticeship you will be required to attend PETA’s Havant training center for off-the-job training. This will be a 42-month programme, structured as 33 months of day release (1 day a week) of skills training at PETA Ltd where you will complete the EAL Level 2 Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations (Foundation Competence) and then the EAL Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Technologies. This will include:
Fabrication and Welding Principles
Producing Plate Fabrications
Manual Metal-Arc (MMA) Welding
Metal Inert Gas/Metal Active Gas (MIG/MAG) Welding
Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) Welding
Producing pipework fabrications
Your independent end point assessment will comprise of:
A theoretical knowledge test, a practical/oral examination to be followed by a professional interview covering the application of knowledge learned during the apprenticeship, the role of the welder in industry and the professional behaviour’s as listed in the Apprenticeship Standard.
