Apprenticeship summary:

PETA Training are proud to be working with Great Oaks School, looking to source an exceptional IT Support Apprentice for their organisation.

We are now looking to appoint an IT Support Assistant to work with our IT Manager to provide technical support assistance to facilitate the use of IT throughout the school. The successful candidate will receive on the job training and will undertake the recognised qualification of Infrastructure Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship through Peta Training and Consultancy Services.

Great Oaks School is a 230 place secondary school for young people with a range of complex learning difficulties including autism and speech and language difficulties. Our pupils come from all over Southampton as well as many from Hampshire. We currently have three sites. Our main site in Vermont Close Southampton, is supplemented by a personalised learning centre in Bitterne for young people needing additional support, and a vocational centre for Post 16 at Down to Earth Farm in Millbrook. Working with the Charity Groundworks we also run the View Café in Netley, providing real work opportunities to our older pupils.


  • Assist the IT Manager in ensuring all hardware and software is property maintained and fit for purpose.
  • Provide front-line technical support to teachers and pupils as required via the IT Helpdesk.
  • Assist in the maintenance of an up to date inventory of IT hardware, software, licences and warranties.
  • Assist with the purchase and installation of new equipment.
  • Assist in the writing of internal processes for IT and the wider school facility.
  •  Undertake other duties to support the range of work undertaken within the department and to support IT across the curriculum.

  • To maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality and data security in respect of personal/pupil/colleague information

  • The successful candidate will be subject to pre-employment checks including a health check questionnaire, an enhanced DBS check, a Staff Suitability Disclosure and satisfactory references.

Qualifications required
  • GCSE Maths and English grade A* - C / 4 - 9 or Level 2 Functional Skills
  • A level 3 ICT qualification will be advantageous

Future prospects
  • Upon completion of  the apprenticeship, the candidate will be able to progress into a IT support role with possible employment being offered
Training to be provided

Throughout the duration of the Apprenticeship you will be required to attend one of PETA training centres for off-the- job training.  The majority of training will be completed with your employer at your place of work.

You will be completing Level 3 Infrastructure Technician Apprenticeship along with the following qualifications:

  • Microsoft (MTA) Networking Fundamentals
  • Microsoft (MTA) Mobility and device Fundamentals
  • Microsoft (MTA) Server Admin
  • Microsoft (MTA) Software development Fundamentals
  • ITIL Foundation V4
  • Functional Skills in English and Maths (if required)
