Congratulations to Lauren Wright - Highly Commended Business Apprentice of the Year
Lauren is currently undertaking an Intermediate Business Administration Apprenticeship at Drayton Medical Services.
Lauren’s role as an administrative receptionist involves her running the front desk, greeting clients, taking phone calls, making appointments and supporting the running of the occupational health suite.
She chose the Apprenticeship route having been told about it by a friend and realising it was a good opportunity to starts a career.
Working in a small occupational health team Lauren acts as the point of contact between the companies they work for and the doctors. She has contributed to increasing business, travelling around multiple industrial estates taking down company details so she could then send letters to the companies explaining who Drayton Medical are and what services they provide. This has resulted in an increase in work for the organisation.
Since starting her Apprenticeship, Lauren has taken responsibility for all the invoicing to BUPA, liaising with them when problems arise and making sure all invoiced amounts are correct. She confidently deals with new companies making sure they are fully informed about the services Drayton Medical offer and following this up with an introduction letter. When a company decides to book work Lauren makes sure that all administration is carried to fulfil the companies order.
Lauren’s Apprenticeship has allowed her to develop in her role both professionally and personally. Her Apprenticeship has helped her develop as a person giving her much more confidence and trust in her actions. When she started she was very nervous about using the phone and would often stutter. However with support and her own perseverance she has overcome this and now speaks to clients with confidence. She has become more ambitious and is now training to be able to enter complex data in a baby clinic.
Lauren’s manager at Drayton Medical said: "Since joining us Lauren has developed into a confident and competent employee. She has successfully completed all training provided and has learnt a variety of new skills.
"Lauren already had some customer service skills from the retail sector which gave her a good grounding. Talking to clients on the telephone, booking appointments and preparing associated correspondence were new experiences. Lauren rose to the challenge very well, taking on responsibility for specific areas of work and a range of administrative duties.
"Part of Laurens role is to support the Occupational Health team with the production of reports, invoices, schedules for appointments and marketing of the services we provide in addition to the basic day to day tasks such as distribution of post and greeting clients.
"Lauren has a positive attitude to everything she does. Her people skills have developed and she presents a confident and efficient welcome to clients. She recognises when she needs to ask for support and guidance and is quick to understand and implement instructions.
"Working in a small team has meant that at times Lauren has to use her own initiative and has demonstrated clear thought processes and reasoning when delaing with queries. She is methodical and organised, manages her workload well and always meets deadlines.
"Lauren is very much as asset to our company and we have offered her a permanent role once she completes her apprenticeship."
With her future career secure Lauren now wants to progress to an Advanced Apprenticeship.
