Congratulations to Amy Haviland - Highly Commended Apprentice of the Year
Amy Haviland was highly commended in our Apprentice of the Year 2016 awards. Amy is currently undertaking an Advanced Business Administration Apprenticeship at Coopers Fire Ltd.
Amy’s role as Commercial Assistant requires her to process orders that come into the business from both UK and overseas customers including logging financial figures and monitoring the margins of the project.
Amy chose the apprenticeship route because it gave her a great start to her chosen career and the opportunity to develop her understanding of what is possible by working in a business.
During her Apprenticeship she has learnt how to process orders communicating with customers and keeping detailed notes and records both in electronic and paper form to ensure the orders are kept up to date and easily tracked. She has also learnt the use of Sage software to manage payments against orders.
Through supporting other departments Amy has also developed her understanding of contracts where she has been responsible for sending out installation schedules and providing project information to project managers and credit control by creating and sending pro formas. At particularly busy times she has even supported the service department by entering information into the online system and stock taking with the production team.
Through her Apprenticeship she is now capable of following projects through from start to finish analysing margins of projects to identify where the business can improve and identifying problems and liaising with managers to ensure there is no re-occurrence.
As well as developing her business skills the Apprenticeship has pushed Amy as a person to take on more challenging work and increase her workload. By doing this she proven to herself that she is more capable than perhaps she thought she was and has grown in confidence.
Amy’s manager at Coopers Fire said “Amy commenced at Coopers Fire as a trainee commercial assistant and had no experience in the role that she had taken on. She has listened carefully and absorbed information given to her and has the confidence to ask if not sure rather than proceed incorrectly. This role requires attention to detail and she is aware of the importance of this.
“Amy is a fast learner, hardworking and diligent in her duties. In my absence Amy is capable of processing a new order and distributing the paperwork to the relevant departments without assistance.
“Amy has taken on board that doing a new task is to her benefit for learning and progression. Being versatile is an asset.
“She has been invaluable to the project team completing online project information, which is an office based task that the project team tend to try and avoid doing. Being young and more computer savvy Amy has set up spreadsheets and master word documents for their procedures and to cover various roles, such as contracts co-ordinator, when staff are absent.”
Amy now looks forward to learning new things to further her achievements.
