Tragic Accident is Director's responsibility
Following the death of one of his workers, a company director has been jailed for 12 months.
When a remote mobile elevated working platform (MEWP) was being loaded onto a truck, it fell from the ramps crushing the 51 year old, killing him. On investigation, it was found that there had not been adequate training, there was no risk assessment in place and no safe system of work.
As well as the 12 month sentence and £4,000 fine, the director was disqualified from being a company director for seven years. The company was also fined £166,000, plus £10,400 costs and is currently in administration.
