Helping the Helpers

PET002555

Course overview

Most of us aren't professional helpers. But most of us will find ourselves, at some point, being the person someone else needs: a colleague in crisis, a challenging moment that you can’t stop thinking about when you get home, a difficult conversation you need to deal with.

Whether you're a manager, HR professional, first aider, a mental health champion, or simply someone people turn to, these moments are both important to the person we are helping, and can have an impact on us.

  • What helping others does to you physically and emotionally
  • The difference between empathy and compassion - and why it matters
  • How to support others without absorbing their experience
  • Small, practical ways to look after yourself before, during, and after difficult moments

Course benefits

Helping others can have a hugely positive impact on individuals and teams… or can lead to more burnout and absence. So it’s worth understanding how we can look after ourselves at the same time.

This practical half day, in-person session explores what happens to you when you support others, and what you can do about it. You'll leave with a clearer understanding of why helping can be draining, and some simple tools to process and recover when it is.
