What will I learn?

Throughout the apprenticeship, learners will develop the technical knowledge, practical skills and professional behaviours required to succeed in a modern accounting environment.

Alongside valuable workplace experience, you will achieve the following qualifications:

  • Level 4 Professional Accounting Technician Apprenticeship Standard
  • AAT Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting

The Level 4 Professional Accounting Technician Apprenticeship begins multiple times throughout the year, get in touch with us to find out when the next cohort starts.

This programme can only be undertaken by those who are already employed in a position which meets the criteria above.

Course Overview

During the programme, apprentices will build competence across the three core areas of the apprenticeship standard: knowledge, skills and behaviours.

Key areas of study include:

  • Preparing, coordinating and implementing accounting tasks that support the production of financial statements
  • Producing timely financial reports and management information
  • Applying accounting legislation, ethical standards and regulatory requirements
  • Maintaining compliance with internal controls and financial procedures
  • Taking a risk-based approach to financial transactions and data analysis to identify and mitigate potential risks
  • Developing professional communication, problem-solving and analytical skills

End Point Assessment Activities

Assessment Method 1:

  • Professional Discussion (supported by the summary of portfolio evidence)
  • 60 minutes - minimum of 10 questions

Assessment Method 2:

  • Role Scenario Assessment
  • You will receive information about a fictitious organisation containing information such as an organisation chart, emails, excerpts from accounts and have at least 10 working days to review this
  • You will complete a series of 4 short tasks and have 150 minutes to complete the test

  • Day-release training at our Training Centre to develop technical knowledge and practical skills

  • Regular progress reviews and ongoing support to help ensure successful completion of the programme

The majority of learning takes place in the workplace through practical experience and applied learning. To successfully complete the apprenticeship, learners are required to undertake six hours per week of off-the-job training. This training is delivered at our Training Centre in Cosham.
