This is an exciting opportunity at a Hampshire based company, learning to undertake electrical/mechanical maintenance. You will learn to complete preventative and breakdown maintenance tasks on specialised equipment ensuring smooth running of the site.

Duties will include:

  • Repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment and systems throughout the site including compressed gas, steam and water systems
  • Basic electrical fault finding and repairs to equipment and systems throughout the site
  • Repair and/or installation of pipework (pressurised and non-pressurised systems)
  • Calibrate and service gauges
  • Conduct routine visual inspections of plant and equipment replacing consumables such as filters, belts, pumps, fans and lighting
  • Undertake routine site service system checks including boilers, fire systems, water systems
  • General housekeeping duties
  • On completion of internal training the successful candidate should be prepared to form part of the call out Rota (currently 1 week in 4 for 24/7), this might change according to the number of staff available on Rota.
  • Complete any other reasonable tasks required by Facility Manager
  • Learn about and comply with best practice manufacturing and other appropriate regulatory requirements

  • The company is located on a Gosport industrial estate, you must be able to get yourself here reliably
  • Attending college will be required

Throughout the duration of the Apprenticeship you will be required to attend PETA’s Havant training centre for off-the-job training. The majority of your development training will be completed with your employer at your place of work. You will be employed whilst you are completing your apprenticeship this will include 18 months of day release training at PETA Ltd where you will complete your Level 2 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence) qualification. This will include:

  • Maintaining mechanical devices and equipment
  • Maintaining electrical equipment/systems
  • Maintaining electronic equipment/systems
  • General turning, milling and welding applications
  • Producing components using hand fitting techniques
  • Producing CAD models (drawings) using a CAD system
  • Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety
  • Working efficiently and effectively in an engineering environment
  • Using and communicating technical information
  • Conducting business improvement activities
  • You will then pass through the foundation Gateway and progress onto your Level 3 development programme and complete:
  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma , Advanced Manufacturing in Maintenance Engineering (Development Technical Knowledge)
  • EAL Level 3 Diploma, Advanced Manufacturing in Maintenance Engineering (Development Competence)

Skills required:

  • You will possess excellent eye for detail
  • Be able to demonstrate excellent communications skills, these are required as this job entails daily contact with all personnel including laboratory and management staff
  • Have good written communication skills enabling you to complete written reports.
  • You must be able to explain problems and how they were dealt with clearly and concisely

 Personal qualities:

  • Be able to make objective decisions using evidence and data
  • Once trained you will be able to work effectively when supervised, with the flexibility to work on your own initiative when required
  • You must be able to work flexibly in respect of requirements of the post
  • Demonstrate an interest and commitment to further training and personal development
  • Be a rounded individual participating in activities and interests on a personal level

 Qualifications required:

  • A minimum of 5 GCSE's at C+ grade (or equivalent), this must include Maths and English
  • Knowledge of GxP Systems and other appropriate regulatory requirements
  • F.E qualifications or experience in an engineering discipline will be looked upon favourably
