Emma Quance

School Engagement Officer

"I am driven to spread the word to as many people as possible about how amazing Apprenticeships are and how they can drive your career!"

What led you to work for PETA?

I have had a few different careers in my professional life, at 30 I sought to change career and so undertook an apprenticeship, and I finally found that passion that had been missing in my professional life to date! Only it was the apprenticeship that had ignited that fire in my belly – not the work itself, I knew I had found something that would make my work enjoyable – and I believe everyone should enjoy what they do!

When the role came up at PETA for their School Engagement I knew it was a perfect fit for me! I really enjoy working to inspire young people and to enable others to find a perfect career path for me sounded too good to be true! I envisage my role as a bit of a match maker for individuals and companies and I love being the person that may have helped to shape someone’s future!

What is your role at PETA and what drives you to what you do?

I have a dual role as School Engagement Officer and Apprenticeship Recruiter, I completed an Apprenticeship at 30 and I absolutely loved everything about it, I am driven to spread the word to as many people as possible about how amazing Apprenticeships are and how they can drive your career!

What knowledge and experience do you draw upon for your role?

I must be incredibly organised in my role, there are a huge host of different events that take part through the academic year across the 90 schools we work with, this relies on me having excellent communication skills and an ability to build strong relationships with all our contacts.

How do you approach your role on a day-to-day basis? What skills are required?

My day mostly consists of attending various events and bookings with our group of 90 schools, I can be out early in the morning to host an assembly and out late at night inspiring young people about apprenticeships. I complete a lot of the administration work through the times in between events and bookings!

What are you passionate about outside of work?

I have a very busy family life, my passion is my family – I don’t have “hobbies” per se but I am incredibly passionate about creating a myriad of memories for my girls and so we book to attend a lot of events, usually around seasonal festivities. I am very outdoorsy, so I try my hardest to get the whole family out on messy fun filled adventures.

What are your personal values, and what is important to you?

I have a core belief in people, I believe that no one sets out to have a bad day – I am drawn to people who share that belief and who put an emphasis on mutual respect and honesty.
