You will learn to interpret customer specifications to recognise design requirements and identifying potential problems. You will be use 3D modelling software to produce drawings and bills of material for glasshouses to be manufactured in house. Eventually taking responsibility for your own projects.

Duties will include:

  • Time will be spent in manufacturing and attending customer sites providing a cornerstone to your training
  • You will learn about all aspects of the manufacturing processes involved including production engineering to ensure structures can be made easily
  • You will learn about all aspects of design including consideration of environment and stress loading
  • You will be trained how to design world class glasshouses using Solidworks 3D CAD software
  • Learn to design a range of mechanical structures using 3D modelling software
  • Provide technical information to a range of stakeholders at the appropriate level for the recipients
  • Work with the other engineering teams including manufacturing and development experts to ensure all designs meet customer requirements
  • Attend PETA/College completing coursework on time and to the required standard.

  • The company is located in Harting you must be able to get yourself onsite, on time, reliably.

Throughout the duration of the Apprenticeship you will be required to attend PETA’s Havant training centre for off-the-job training. The majority of your development training will be completed with your employer at your place of work. You will be employed whilst you are completing your apprenticeship this will include 18 months of day release training at PETA Ltd where you will complete your Level 2 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence) qualification. This will include:

  • Producing CAD models (drawings) using a CAD system
  • Maintaining mechanical devices and equipment
  • Maintaining electrical equipment/systems
  • Maintaining electronic equipment/systems
  • General turning, milling and welding applications
  • Producing components using hand fitting techniques
  • Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety
  • Working efficiently and effectively in an engineering environment
  • Using and communicating technical information
  • Conducting business improvement activities

You will then undertake the Level 2 Award for Foundation Phase Gateway Assessment and progress onto your Level 3 development programme and complete:

  • Pearson Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)
  • EAL Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) – Product Design and Development

Skills required:

  • You will demonstrate excellent communications skills with a range of upstream management, the production management team and production personnel
  • You will be rational with the ability to analyse data and information
  • Use problem solving tools and skills to reach justifiable/testable outcomes
  • Excellent level of IT skills with the ability to use MS software packages effectively
  • A good awareness of health and safety considerations.

Personal qualities:

  • You need to be focused, self-driven with a can do attitude.
  • A good eye for detail with the ability to anticipate problems before they become an issue
  • Creative thinking with the ability to stand back and be objective
  • Strong team work ethic coupled with a desire to become independent and self actualised

Qualifications required:

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent to include Maths, English, Science at Grade B or above.
  • BTEC level 3 or other relevant engineering qualification are desirable
  • Any relevant FE qualifications will be looked upon favourably
