Duties will include:

  • You will be orientated around all aspects of the Powertecnique’s business including project management, procurement, build, installation and maintenance.
  • You will learn about the Powertecnique emergency power solutions including UPS and Generators.
  • Provide technical information for use by sub-contractors and internal engineers
  • You will learn how a UPS works including all of the electrical and electronic assemblies and sub-assemblies.
  • Learn how a generator works including the mechanical, electrical and electronic assemblies and sub-assemblies.
  • Learn how to diagnose faults on UPS and Generators identifying the root causes of problems.
  • You will become an expert in the management of the support documentation required including compiling manuals and other supporting information
  • Become part of the quality management system learning how to ensure that all documents and processes are ISO 9001 compliant.
  • Support customers with existing products arranging repairs when required
  • Provide sales and technical support to customers, internal and external engineering functions

  • The company is located on Segensworth industrial estate, you must be able to get yourself here reliably.

Throughout the duration of the Apprenticeship you will be required to attend PETA’s Havant training centre for off-the-job training.  The majority of your development training will be completed with your employer at your place of work. You will be employed whilst you are completing your apprenticeship this will include 18 months of day release training at PETA Ltd where you will complete your Level 2 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence) qualification. This will include:

  • Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety
  • Using and communicating technical information
  • Maintaining electronic equipment/systems
  • Maintaining electrical equipment/systems
  • Maintaining mechanical devices and equipment
  • Producing components using hand fitting techniques           
  • Conducting business improvement activities
  • General turning, milling and welding applications      
  • Working efficiently and effectively in an engineering environment
  • Producing CAD models (drawings) using a CAD system

You will then pass through the foundation Gateway and progress onto your Level 3 development programme and complete:

  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Technical Knowledge)
  • EAL Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence)

Skills required:

  • An understanding of/or knowledge of electrical and electronic principles.
  • Your excellent communication skills will enable you to develop into a role where the ability to effectively communicate on a technical level with peers and management is crucial.
  • Your logical approach to problem solving will enable you to make a good contribution to all aspects of the job
  • You will need to be productive when working as part of a team and independently with minimum supervision
  • Have a good level of IT literacy, competent using Microsoft Office

  • You will have a ‘Can Do’ attitude to work with a willingness to use your own initiative
  • Your enthusiasm motivation and drive will be among your best appreciated assets
  • You will be methodical with a good eye for detail.
  • You will need to be open minded and willing to develop your knowledge and skills to support your future development

Qualifications required:

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent (inc Maths, English, Science – preferably Physics) at Grade C or above
  • Any Engineering qualifications will be looked upon favorably.
