Duties will include:

  • Respond to breakdowns, systematically fault find, and identify root cause and then implement solution to prevent recurrence. Support 24 hour site production operations and pro-actively engage with all departments to supply an effective, efficient, compliant service on a right first time basis.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance.  Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to increase equipment efficiency, effectiveness, reliability and process robustness.
  • Provide engineering support for production activity to meet customer requirements and site operations as required. Provide pro-active, flexible support to production activity with change overs, set-ups, change parts and skills transfer. 
  • Actively build internal and external departmental relationships.  Support cross functional activity relating to safety, quality, micro and project work with supporting documentation.
  • Maintain skills and knowledge of equipment and changing technologies with training and sharing of best practices with peers and other support groups
  • Participate in company initiatives as ‘subject matter expert’ to seek resolutions to common issues.  Engage in knowledge sharing activities with others 
  • You will also learn how to maintain manufacturing vessels working with the experienced experts on site
  • You will become competent in electrical and mechanical maintenance, learning how to work on all of the machinery at the Tangmere site within facilities, plant, production, warehouse and laboratories

Other information:

  • The company is located on a remote industrial estate, so you need to carefully consider how you will get to work on time every day
  • You will be required to attend PETA’s Havant training centre for off-the-job training.  This will include an initial 18 months of day release training where you will complete your Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence) qualification. This will consist:
    • Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety 
    • Working efficiently and effectively in an engineering environment
    • Using and communicating technical information
    • Conducting business improvement activities
    • Maintaining mechanical devices and equipment                 
    • Maintaining electrical equipment/systems                          
    • Maintaining electronic equipment/systems             
    • General turning, milling and welding applications               
    • Producing CAD models (drawings) using a CAD system
    • Producing components using hand fitting techniques
  • You will then pass through the foundation Gateway and progress onto your Level 3 development programme and complete:
    • BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) requiring a further two years of day release
    • EAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) delivered in the workplace.

Skills required:

  • Electrical and Mechanical aptitude. i.e. ability to understand technical problems
  • Skill in using tools, equipment and measuring devices will be developed during the apprenticeship
  • Good numerical skills – ability to analyse statistical data and identify trends
  • Basic computer skills – email, Word processing, Excel etc.
  • To be capable of using the maintenance systems within the Engineering Department
  • Essential that a customer related approach is adopted.  Excellent verbal communications skills are a must as this job entails daily contact with all personnel, production supervisors and occasional contact with the production manager and technical staff
  • You will need good written communication skills to complete reports with a willingness to explain problems and how they were dealt with clearly and concisely
  • Awareness of health and safety considerations
  • The ability to demonstrate a basic understanding mechanical and electrical theory/principles is desirable

  • You must be prepared to go above and beyond the minimum required, with a can-do attitude and a desire to succeed
  • You must work well as part of a team and have an ability to get on with people
  • You need to be organised, good at planning ahead and have an ability to meet deadlines
  • You will need to be able to work effectively under supervision and, once trained work on your own initiative
  • Have a good special awareness and co-ordination, together with an eye for detail

Qualifications required:

  • 5 GCSE’s at Grade C (4) or above (or equivalents) including maths, English
  • GCSE in science is highly desirable
  • If you have completed any other relevant qualifications or training this will also be viewed favorably.
  • Any engineering experience or qualifications are desirable.
