This is an opportunity to learn all aspects of the mechanical fitting the role will include following standard operating procedures using a range of power and hand tools. You will assemble precision made parts for the Aerospace sector learning how to inspect and test completed assemblies to ensure that performance is within specified tolerances.

Duties will include:

  • Learn how to check kits of parts to ensure that all parts are available using the Bill of Material and technical specifications.
  • Learn how to follow engineering drawings and Standard Operating Procedures (S.O.P’s)
  • Become competent using a range of pneumatic power and hand tools to manufacture a range of mechanical assemblies
  • Learn how to build a range of products including hydraulics and control system sub-assemblies
  • Become a flexible team member working as part of a team with Eaton’s skilled engineering team learning
  • Learn how to use a range of power tools including rivet guns, pneumatic screwdrivers
  • Become competent using a range of hand tools including screw drivers, spanners and hammers
  • Learn how to undertake a range of hand assembly and fitting operations using blind rivets and threaded fasteners
  • Become competent using chemical thread locking and wire locking techniques
  • Learn how to check and inspect your own work using Vernier measuring equipment and the dedicated test rigs in the production areas

  • The company are looking to recruit the right caliber individual for this role and see personal attributes as a key part of securing the personnel they want.
  • The company is located at the Abbey Work facility in Titchfield, you will need to be able to get yourself here reliably.

Throughout the duration of the Apprenticeship you will be required to attend PETA’s Havant training centre for off-the-job training.  The majority of skills development training in years 2, 3 and 4 will be completed with your employer at your place of work.

You will work towards the following qualifications:

  • You will be employed whilst you are completing your apprenticeship this will include 6 months of block release training at PETA Ltd where you will complete your Level 2 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence) qualification. This will include:
  • Producing components using hand fitting techniques           
  • Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety 
  • Working efficiently and effectively in an engineering environment
  • Using and communicating technical information
  • Conducting business improvement activities
  • Maintaining mechanical devices and equipment                   
  • Maintaining electrical equipment/systems                            
  • Maintaining electronic equipment/systems               
  • General turning, milling and welding applications                  
  • Producing CAD models (drawings) using a CAD system

You will then pass through the foundation Gateway and progress onto your Level 3 development programme and complete:

  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Technical Knowledge)
  • EAL Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence)
  • You will also achieve Functional Skills in Math’s and English at level 2 (if you have not already achieved C+ or a Grade 4+ in these disciplines).

Skills required:

  • You will have a good level of dexterity and hand skills
  • Demonstrate an interest in manufacturing mechanical components is highly desirable
  • You will have good hand to eye co-ordination
  • Your logical approach to problem solving will enable you to perform to make a good contribution to all aspects of the job
  • You need to be able to learn through instruction and experience

Personal qualities:

  • Your motivation and drive are the assets that will be best appreciated. 
  • You will need good communication skills as you will develop into a role where the ability to communicate on a technical level with peers and management is a crucial skill
  • You will need to be open minded and willing to develop your knowledge and skills to support your future development

Qualifications required:

  • 3 GCSE's at grade C or above (or equivalents) to include Maths and English are essential
  • Additionally a science or engineering qualification is highly desirable
  • Any engineering experience or qualifications will be looked upon favourably
