Work in a friendly dynamic team learning all aspects of SMR manufacturing business. You will become expert in the control systems onsite, configuring PLC and graphics display software, calibrating and testing products. You will also support the installation and commissioning of equipment, completing root cause analysis of manufacturing problems.

Duties will include:

  • Learn about the range of manufacturing of vision test system electronics and hardware on site
  • Learn how to configure PLC and graphics display software for vision system end of line test units
  • Once qualified you will learn how to develop software, part number updates and downloading
  • Learn how to support the initial installation and commissioning of production line
  • Become able to support maintenance department on breakdowns when required.
  • Learn how to liaise with all departments for test unit identified mirror fault analysis.
  • Once qualified be able modify and test systems for product changes
  • Learn how to develop embedded software and PC based control systems.
  • Once qualified you will be able to contribute to the writing of OEM machinery manuals
  • Learn how to calibrate vision systems and transducer type test units for QC.
  • Become able to competently network communications for end of line test systems.
  • Learn how to contribute towards control system and electrical design, specification and development for OEM machinery
  • Become able to write software for PLC and graphics display (for machinery and paint plant)
  • Learn how to support the installation, commissioning and electrical testing of OEM machinery.
  • Once qualified monitor and tune OEM machinery
  • Will learn how to manufacture of prototype samples for customer Lab Car testing.
  • Work with the SMR Compliance Manager to ensure that OHSAS 18001 status is maintained

  • You will be required to attend PETA’s Havant training centre for off-the-job training. 
  • The majority of your development training will be completed with your employer at your place of work. You will be employed whilst you are completing your apprenticeship this will include 18 months of day release training at PETA Ltd where you will complete your Level 2 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence) qualification. This will include:
    • Producing components using hand fitting techniques           
    • Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety 
    • Working efficiently and effectively in an engineering environment
    • Using and communicating technical information
    • Conducting business improvement activities
    • Maintaining mechanical devices and equipment                   
    • Maintaining electrical equipment/systems                            
    • Maintaining electronic equipment/systems               
    • General turning, milling and welding applications                  
    • Producing CAD models (drawings) using a CAD system
  • You will then pass through the foundation Gateway and progress onto your Level 3 development programme and complete:
    • BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Technical Knowledge)
    • EAL Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence)

Skills required:

  • Your excellent communication skills will enable you to develop into a role where the ability to effectively communicate on a technical level with peers and management is crucial.
  • Your logical approach to problem solving will enable you to make a good contribution to all aspects of the job
  • Have a good level of IT literacy, competent using MS Office

Qualifications required:

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent including Maths, English at Grade C (4) or above
