You will be interpreting technical information to produce visual representations (schematics) for tendering purposes. You will also learn how to provide detailed 2D drawings for structural assemblies and components. You will also get involved with ordering materials working with customers and colleagues to ensure that products are delivered on time

Duties will include:

  • Following a period of learning you will be able to produce visual representations of assemblies for tendering purposes
  • Learn how to design, order materials for the manufacturing of the specialist structures and manufacturing processes
  • Become an expert in customising designs to client specifications producing industry standard 2D drawings
  • Following a period of learning you will be able to confidently receive visitors, efficiently answer calls arriving into the business and transfer to the appropriate person
  • Learn how to provide accurate technical information to sub-contractors and internal manufacturing team
  • Become an effective team member working  in partnership with the sales function to ensure that external all third party supply and support providers are managed to ensure timely delivery of services
  • Following a period of learning you will be able to Ensure externally sourced parts are inspected and tested in line with company requirements
  • Become an expert in customer support to clients with existing products arranging repairs when required
  • Following a period of learning you will be able to provide sales and technical support to customers, internal and external engineering functions

Other information:

  • The company is looking to recruit the right caliber individual for this role and see personal attributes as a key part of securing the personnel they want.
  • The company is located on the Mill Rythe Lane, Hayling Island, however the training will be delivered at PETA’s Havant training facility; you will need to be able to get yourself to both locations reliably.

Throughout the duration of the Apprenticeship you will be required to attend PETA’s Havant training centre for off-the-job training.  The majority of your development training will be completed with your employer at your place of work. You will be employed whilst you are completing your apprenticeship this will include 18 months of day release training at PETA Ltd where you will complete your Level 2 Advanced Engineering (Foundation Competence) qualification. This will include:

  • Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety 
  • Using and communicating technical information
  • Maintaining mechanical devices and equipment                   
  • Maintaining electrical equipment/systems                            
  • Maintaining electronic equipment/systems
  • General turning, milling and welding applications      
  • Producing components using hand fitting techniques           
  • Producing CAD models (drawings) using a CAD system
  • Working efficiently and effectively in an engineering environment
  • Using and communicating technical information
  • Conducting business improvement activities

You will then pass through the foundation Gateway and progress onto your Level 3 development programme and complete:

  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Engineering (Development Technical Knowledge)
  • EAL Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Engineering (Development Competence)

Skills required:

  • Excellent verbal communications skills are required as this job entails daily contact with all colleagues and the management team
  • You will have good written communication skills enabling you to complete shift reports.
  • You will be objective and analytical in your approach to problem solving being able to explain problems and how they were dealt with clearly and concisely     
  • Awareness of health and safety considerations.

Personal qualities:

  • Once trained you will be able to work effectively when supervised, with the flexibility to work on your own initiative when required
  • You will have an interest in design and working collaboratively
  • Have a good attention to detail
  • You must be able to work flexibly in line with the requirements of the post

Qualifications required:

  • Minimum of 3 GCSEs or equivalent (inc Math’s, English, Science) at Grade C(4)
  • Experience using AutoCad or other 2D drawing packages is desirable
  • Engineering qualifications
