Duties will include:

  • The successful candidate will be working with a small team of engineers on a wide range of business activities relating to printed circuit manufacture and similar industries
  • You will be based at Viking’s premises in Petersfield, Hampshire and may be required to travel to service customers and visit suppliers in the UK, across Europe and the rest of the world
  • You will be involved in a wide range of activities including installation and support of a variety of customer machinery including manual machining, chemical processing and electronic test equipment.
  • There will be opportunities to be involved in all aspects of the business which can include: Helping customers to specify equipment for purchase, negotiation with suppliers, machine installation, machine servicing, customer support, workshop activities and machine design and assembly.
  • The successful candidate will be highly motivated and interested in developing a very wide range of electro-mechanical skills

Other information:

  • Currently situated in Bordon, the company aim to complete their move to new premises in Petersfield by Easter 2019. The new premises are close to the A3 and Petersfield Railway Station
  • The successful candidate would need to be prepared to travel by car or train, sometimes for long distances to customer premises
  • Apprentices may be required to work away from home at one of Viking’s customers and would therefore need to stay overnight in hotels
  • Due to the nature of the business, a driving licence and passport will be required to fulfill this position
  • During the foundation phase (18 months day release) you will complete a Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering (Foundation Competence) at the PETA Ltd Engineering Training Centre in Havant (5 minute walk from Havant Railway Station), consisting of the following units:
    • Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements
    • Working efficiently and effectively in an engineering environment
    • Using and communicating technical information
    • Conducting business improvement activities
    • Producing components using hand fitting techniques
    • Maintaining mechanical devices and equipment
    • Maintaining electrical equipment/systems
    • Maintaining electronic equipment/systems
    • General turning, milling and welding applications
    • Producing CAD models (drawings) using a CAD system
  • On completion of the foundation phase you will progress to the development phase to complete a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing (Development Knowledge), requiring two years of day release, and a Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence), completed within the workplace.
  • Within the programme you will also need to achieve English and maths functional skills at level 2, however if you have already achieved GCSE’s in these subjects at grade C (4) or above then the functional skills are not required.

Skills required:

  • Basic knowledge of PCB manufacturing, together with electrical and mechanical engineering/maintenance experience.
  • Preferably work experience with companies in this field.
  • A person who has a genuine interest in PCB's and printing machinery and is a quick learner

  • A person who has a quick, logical mind and not afraid to speak up with ideas they have
  • A dedicated and hard worker at all times
  • Results driven, possessing determination to see the job through to completion

Qualifications required:

  • 5 GCSE's grade C (4) or above including Maths, English & Science (Physics & Chemistry preferably)
