You will learn how to programme set and operate the manual and CNC Milling machines. You will learn how to load prove and edit programs. You will also learn how to programme using the dedicated machine language. You will be working on components for the marine industry in, you will learn about innovative work holding and machining strategies in a range of materials. Lewmar will provide excellent support & training.

Lewmar are based in Havant close to public transport hubs and the A27. They have a strong track record in training and developing apprentices to become skilled engineers. The company manufactures rope management systems, deck hardware, marine glass solutions and ancillary yacht related equipment. They produce prototype and low volume components assemblies. You will be working as part of a small team manufacturing new and bespoke products. This is an environment where team work flexibility and application are key assets.

Duties will include:

  • Select and use a range of measuring and testing equipment to check components are to the required quality and accuracy
  • Learn how to read and interpret drawings, data and documentation used to produce machined components
  • Follow company safety procedures and Health and Safety legislation
  • Be able to select and set up the correct tooling and work holding devices
  • Learn how to set and adjust machine operating parameters to maximise efficiently
  • Learn how to edit using the machine control interface and operate CNC Milling Machines
  • Learn how programme using machine programing language to generate toolpaths and manufacture to components to drawing specifications
  • Learn about a range machining strategies and innovative work holding methods

Skills required:

  • You will have a good level of dexterity and hand skills
  • Demonstrate an interest in manufacturing mechanical components is highly desirable
  • You will have good hand to eye co-ordination
  • Your logical approach to problem solving will enable you to perform to make a good contribution to all aspects of the job
  • You need to be able to learn through instruction and experience
