This is an exciting opportunity learning to undertake electrical/mechanical maintenance. You will learn to complete breakdown and preventative maintenance tasks on specialised handling equipment conveyors, irrigation and energy generation equipment. You will ensure machinery is running efficiently focussing on ensuring that production is maintained

Duties will include:

  • You will be trained in electro-mechanical maintenance gaining the competence to work on all of the equipment and machinery at our Bosham site
  • This will include heat generation, power generation, environmental systems and also irrigation systems
  • You will learn to carry out routine planned maintenance on mechanical, electrical and electronic production equipment working to planned maintenance schedules
  • Following training and experience you will become capable of diagnosing the causes of faults on a wide range of equipment
  • You will learn how to maintain and update all maintenance and equipment documentation
  • You will identifying possible improvements and assist implementing the companies continuous improvement programme
  • You will always work in accordance with company safety procedures and follow Health and Safety legislation
  • Attend college / PETA and complete coursework on time and to the required standard.

Other information:

  • The company is located in Bosham you must be able to get yourself onsite, on time, reliably
  • Your salary will be increased by £1500 in week 12 (performance dependent)
  • This is a production orientated business teamwork takes priority
  • Following the completion of your training you will be on a call out rota for breakdowns

Throughout the duration of the Apprenticeship you will be required to attend PETA’s Havant training centre for off-the-job training.  The majority of your development training will be completed with your employer at your place of work. You will be employed whilst you are completing your apprenticeship this will include 18 months of day release training at PETA Ltd where you will complete your Level 2 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence) qualification. This will include:

  • Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety
  • Using and communicating technical information
  • Maintaining mechanical devices and equipment                   
  • Maintaining electrical equipment/systems                            
  • Maintaining electronic equipment/systems
  • General turning, milling and welding applications     
  • Producing components using hand fitting techniques
  • Producing CAD models (drawings) using a CAD system
  • Working efficiently and effectively in an engineering environment
  • Using and communicating technical information
  • Conducting business improvement activities

You will then pass through the foundation Gateway and progress onto your Level 3 development programme and complete:

  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing (Development Knowledge)
  • EAL Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Engineering Maintenance (Development Competence)

Skills required:

  • Excellent verbal communications skills are required as this job entails daily contact with all shift personnel and the management team
  • You will have good written communication skills enabling you to complete shift reports.
  • You will be objective and analytical in your approach to problem solving being able to explain problems and how they were dealt with clearly and concisely     
  • Awareness of health and safety considerations.

  • You need to have a positive outlook, energetic with a can-do attitude.
  • You will be a self-starter with high levels of motivation
  • Once trained you will be able to work effectively when supervised, with the flexibility to work on your own initiative when required
  • Good eyesight and hand to eye coordination
  • Capable of working in confined spaces
  • You must be able to work flexibly in line with the requirements of the post
  • Commit to further training and personal development
  • You will demonstrate an interest in Langmead and the wider horticultural industry
  • Willing to work flexible hours including undertaking shift work within the apprenticeship

Qualifications required:

  • Minimum of 3 GCSEs or equivalent (inc Math’s, English, Science) at Grade C
  • BTEC or relevant Engineering qualification is desirable
  • A or AS Level qualifications or equivalents in relevant subject including math’s or science will be looked upon favourably
