This is an exciting position to become an expert welder fabricator, learning to operate, maintain and repair vessels structure and equipment in a safe, effective and economic manner in alignment with relevant regulations and company procedures.

Duties will include:

  • You will be trained to weld a range of materials using a variety of welding equipment (MIG/TIG/MMA)
  • This will include learning how to set up the correct power (parameter) settings, select the consumable and follow a Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) to weld different joint types.
  • Your aim over time will be to achieve a high-quality weld that will pass surface and internal inspection including Visual, Dye Penetrant and Radiographic (x-ray) to International Standards.
  • The parts will be a range of welds in mainly round products in different positions. You will be required to achieve weld "Codes" to meet the requirements of welding pressure vessels standards.
  • Produce products to a high degree of accuracy and finish, ensuring Serco’s quality standards are achieved.
  • Site safety is of paramount importance to Serco, you will complete a period of off the job training as well as a Serco specific health and safety induction before learning how to use the equipment on site
  • Attend PETA and complete coursework on time and to the required standard.
  • Become competent reading and interpret drawings, data and documentation used to produce machined components

  • Must be able to provide technical reasoning skills to resolve problems associated with the various elements of the post and be able to bench overhaul, clean and adjust specific items of equipment.

Personal qualities:

  • You will need to be enthusiastic, reliable, determined and hardworking and prepared to constantly learn and develop new skills with an interest in engineering.

Qualifications required:

  • 4 GCSEs or acceptable equivalent as follows:
  • Maths Grade B (5) or above
  • English and a Science subject Grade A - C (9-4)
  • An additional GCSE Grade A – C (9-4)
