You will learn how to set and operate the CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) Routers. You will learn how to set tooling and work holding devices, load, prove and edit programs. You also learn how to maximise production by applying set up time reduction techniques, measuring components to check they meet specifications for the fire door industry

Duties will include:

  • Learn how to read job paperwork along with CNC programs. Be able to accurately follow both written and pictorial instructions (including CAD drawings)
  • Adhere to quality assurance procedures and processes
  • Be able to work to fine tolerance’s and deadlines
  • Become competent reading and interpreting the data and documentation used to produce machined components
  • Learn how to select and set up tooling and work holding devices
  • Become competent setting and adjusting the machine operating parameters to produce components to the required specification
  • Learn how to set feeds and speeds for roughing and finishing operations
  • Become competent operating a range of CNC and manual machines
  • Learn how to program and edit using the machine control interface
  • Become highly conversant in using a range of machining strategies
  • Become competent in making changes that will increase accuracy and productivity
  • Learn how to create and manipulate CNC programming to identify the best way to manufacture parts
  • Become competent selecting and using a range of measuring and testing equipment to check components are to the required quality and accuracy
  • Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs
  • General factory housekeeping and machine cleaning
  • The successful candidates will follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs) whilst ensuring compliance to all Health and Safety requirements

Skills required:

  • IT Literate & Good Arithmetic ability
  • You will have a good level of dexterity and hand skills
  • A high level of attention to detail to adhere to our high-quality control standards
  • Your logical approach to problem solving will enable you to perform to make a good contribution to all aspects of the job

Personal qualities:

  • An interest in manufacturing, joinery or wood machining
  • You need to be able to learn through instruction and experience
  • A flexible, friendly and enthusiastic attitude
  • Willing to work additional hours to suit the needs of the business

Qualifications required:

  • Minimum of 2 GCSEs or equivalents in Math’s and English at Grade C
