This is an exciting opportunity to work for an expanding company. You will learn how to maintain production machinery and systems focusing on electrical maintenance ensuring machinery works efficiently. We provide a great learning environment that has produced outstanding engineering technicians. The successful candidate will become part of a development and succession plan to build on, and retain, existing skills and knowledge within the electrical maintenance team. Upon completion of this apprenticeship it is expected that a move onto a shift based pattern will be required.

Laleham want to develop their apprentices with a view to possible progression routes within the business as part of their succession planning. There is a possibility of support through Higher Education (HNC) for the right candidate in the future.

Duties will include:

  • Learn how to work safely following company procedures, complying with industry health, safety, environmental working practices and regulations
  • You will be trained to maintain all of the Production equipment and machinery at our Alton site
  • Become competent reading and technical specifications, supporting documentation and compliance documentation
  • Prepare work areas ready for maintenance activities and reinstate those areas after the completion of the work
  • You will work to planned maintenance schedules
  • You will learn to carry out routine planned maintenance on electrical and electronic production equipment  
  • Inspect equipment and machinery before planning maintenance on electro-mechanical equipment and machinery
  • Once you have completed your training and gained sufficient experience you will become capable of diagnosing the causes of faults on a wide range of equipment. Undertaking fault diagnosis in a logical way identifying the root causes of faults on the equipment on site
  • You will learn how to update all maintenance and equipment documentation
  • You will assist technical staff with the development of Laleham’s continuous improvement programme
  • You will always work in accordance with company safety procedures and follow Health and Safety legislation
  • Assess and test the performance and condition of machinery and equipment
  • Communicate, handover and confirm that the appropriate engineering process has been completed to specification
  • Attend college / PETA and complete coursework on time and to the required standard.
  • Take on additional responsibility in years 2, 3 and 4

Skills required:

  • Excellent communications skills are required as this job entails daily contact with all shift personnel from a variety of Operational teams.
  • Strong written communication skills enabling you to complete shift handover reports and accurate completion of maintenance records.
  • You must be able to explain problems and how they were dealt with clearly and concisely     
  • Awareness of health and safety considerations.

Personal qualities:

  • Once trained you will be able to work effectively when supervised, with the flexibility to work on your own initiative when required
  • Good eyesight and hand to eye coordination
  • Capable of working in confined spaces with unusual body postures
  • You must be able to work flexibly in respect of requirements of the post
  • Commit to further training and personal development
  • You will demonstrate an interest in Laleham and the wider manufacturing industry
  • Willing to work flexible hours, and overtime, including undertaking shift work during the apprenticeship

Qualifications required:

  • Minimum of 4 GCSEs or equivalent (inc Math’s, English, Science) at Grade C
  • BTEC or relevant Engineering qualification is desirable
  • A Level qualifications or equivalents in relevant subject including math’s or science will be looked upon favourably
