An excellent opportunity to work as part of a small team. Learn to use Metal Inert Gas to make structurally sound welds, you will develop and improve your skills progressing onto welding a variety of components for launch and road trailers.

Sailboat Deliveries Ltd are focused on delivering quality road and launch trailers. They have a unique dedicated facility situated in a picturesque location in Emsworth. They are focused on supporting the development of their team and ensuring the training produces the best welders.

Duties will include:

  • You will be trained to weld a range of components using MIG (Metal Inert Gas).
  • This will include learning how to set up the correct power (parameter) settings, select the consumable and follow procedures to weld different joint types.
  • Your aim over time will be to achieve high-quality welds that will pass surface and visual inspection.
  • Produce products to a good degree of accuracy and finish, ensuring company quality standards are achieved. 
  • Site safety is of paramount importance. You will complete a period of off the job training as well as a company specific health and safety induction before learning how to use the equipment on site
  • Attend PETA and complete coursework on time and to the required standard.
  • Take on additional responsibility at the end of year 1

Skills required:

  • You will have a good level of dexterity and hand skills
  • Awareness of health and safety issues regarding working in dynamic work environment
  • You will have good hand to eye co-ordination and hand skills
  • Your logical approach to problem solving will enable you to perform to make a good contribution to all aspects of the job
  • You need to be able to learn through instruction and experience

Personal qualities:

  • You will need to be focused, self-motivated, trustworthy and have a team player mentality
  • You must be self-disciplined and possess a willingness to help the team achieve department targets
  • An ability to understand and act on technical information is desirable
  • Willing to work flexible locations and hours including undertaking shift work in the apprenticeship

Qualifications required:

  • 2 GCSEs or equivalent at grade C or above (4-9) in maths and English)
