A fantastic opportunity to learn to produce tooling, jigs and fixtures. You will be trained to use manual lathes and mills together with other machinery to produce goods for customers within the aeronautical industry.

PHB Precision Engineering Limited have been producing quality tooling products for the aeronautical industry for over 50 years. They now concentrate on producing a varied range of tooling and fixtures as required by their customers.

Duties will include:

  • Follow company safety procedures and Health and Safety legislation
  • Learn how to read and interpret drawings, data and documentation used to produce machined components
  • Be able to select and set up the correct tooling and work holding devices
  • Learn how to set and adjust machine operating parameters to maximise efficiency
  • The role will also include hand finishing parts and assembling tools for manufacturing use
  • You will learn how to identify root causes of problems, completing repairs and ordering replacement parts as required
  • You will learn how to use a range of tool room equipment including mills and lathes and grinders
  • Select and use a range of measuring and testing equipment to check components are to the required quality and accuracy

Skills required:

  • You will have a good level of dexterity and hand skills
  • Demonstrate an interest in manufacturing mechanical components is highly desirable
  • You will have good hand to eye co-ordination
  • Your logical approach to problem solving will enable you to perform to make a good contribution to all aspects of the job
  • You need to be able to learn through instruction and experience

Personal qualities:

  • Your motivation and drive are the assets that will be best appreciated. 
  • You will need good communication skills as you will develop into a role where the ability to communicate on a technical level with peers and management is a crucial skill
  • You will need to be open minded and willing to develop your knowledge and skills to support your future development

Qualifications required:

  • 3 GCSE's at grade C or above (or equivalents) to include maths and English
  • Any engineering experience or qualifications will be looked upon favorably


  • 22 days annual leave plus 8 days statutory bank/public holidays.
  • On-site parking
