Working in the quality department you will be communicating with production and engineering teams to ensure that customer specifications are met. Inspection requires contributing towards preventing defects and maintaining accurate records

Wessex Advanced Switching Products Limited (WASP) is a specialist electronics and engineering company based in Havant. The company was formed in 1974 and today employs more than 100 people. WASP manufacture a range of customised rotary switches as well as custom designed membrane switches and specialist keypads and touch screens, for use in applications such as defence, medical, food production and the aviation industry. Duties will include:

  • Learn how to inspect precision-made mechanical components and assemblies
  • Become able to inspect incoming components and materials
  • Learn how to complete final inspection of products including documenting outcomes entering data into quality records
  • Become competent in all quality control activities required for new product introduction
  • Once competent you will be supporting all departments that interface with Quality
  • Become a flexible member of a dynamic inspection team, providing inspection services as required by the business
  • Once competent your will be undertaking first article inspection  
  • Learn how to support the development of procedures and processes this will include improving the efficiency of the manufacturing and quality management onsite services
  • Become able to contribute towards the organisation of your working area
  • Learn how to apply Business Improvement Techniques to a range of projects
  • Learn how to use root cause analysis and problem-solving tools to effectively resolve issues
  • Once fully trained your will be able to identify cost effective interventions to solve problems
  • Learn how to contribute to a range of projects and work collaboratively with the engineering and quality teams

Skills required:

  • Have an excellent attention to detail
  • You will possess good interpersonal and written writing skills
  • Being computer literate will be a great asset
  • You will be organised and work in a tidy, professional manner
  • Have good numerical, logical, organisational and analytical skills
  • Experience of working as part of team or directly with customers would be advantageous

Personal qualities:

  • A genuine interest in working as part of a team working towards common goals will be key to your success
  • Flexible with a “can do” attitude
  • An interest in taking things apart at home to try and understand how they work and fix them
  • A self-starter with good personal discipline
  • You will need to be reflective and pragmatic when problem solving
  • Possess good judgement making reasoned and justifiable decisions

Qualifications required:

  • 6 GCSEs (A* - C), including Maths, English and a Science
