Duties will include:

  • You will always work in accordance with company safety procedures and follow Health and Safety legislation
  • Learn how to interpret and follow drawings/diagrams and/or specifications
  • You will be trained in electrical fitting gaining the competence to build all of the products at VES
  • Become competent producing complex high value, low volume assemblies using hand and power tools
  • Become competent fitting typically in either a mechanical and electrical assets across disciplines focusing on electrical and control systems
  • Produce or re-furbish components by interpreting drawings/specifications to plan their work
  • Learn how to make sure you have the right tools, equipment and resources to complete the task to the required specification.
  • Become able to check your work against quality standards and make adjustments as required
  • Following training and experience you will become capable of identifying the causes of faults on a wide range of products
  • Learn how to hand over the product and prepare the work area for the next task by checking equipment meets the standards required to operation
  • Effectively communicate with line managers and supervisors
  • Attend college / PETA and complete coursework on time and to the required standard
  • Take on additional responsibility in years 2, 3 and 4

Skills required:

  • Excellent communications skills are required as this job entails daily contact with all personnel and the supervisory and management team
  • This will include written communication skills enabling you to complete documentation.
  • You will be able to explain problems and how they were dealt with clearly and concisely     
  • Awareness of health and safety considerations.

Personal qualities:

  • Once trained you will be able to work effectively when supervised, with the flexibility to work on your own initiative when required
  • Good eyesight and hand to eye coordination
  • You must be able to work flexibly in respect of requirements of the post
  • Commit to further training and personal development
  • You will demonstrate an interest in VES and the wider manufacturing industry
  • Willing to work flexible hours

Qualifications required:

  • Minimum of 4 GCSEs or equivalent (inc Math’s, English) at Grade C
  • BTEC or relevant Engineering training or qualification is desirable
