You will learn how to maintain and service a range of Air Compressors, this will include preventative and breakdown activities. This role will be based primarily working with our engineering experts at client company sites, however you will also spend time at our Segensworth facility learning how to strip and rebuild our compressors.

MB Air Systems ltd was established following a management buyout of the business and assets of Motherwell Bridge Air Systems Limited. Our area of operations includes the service and maintenance specialise in the fields of compressed air, material handling (industrial lifting), power tools, pneumatics and product finishing systems to a wide range of clients. Our service and technical teams work through a structured network of branches in the United Kingdom providing clients with customised maintenance solutions to meet their requirements. We will be working in partnership with our training provider to deliver a first-class learning experience. You will also be expected to attend Ingersoll Rand (OEM) training on air compressor products. This will be delivered at our Preston facility, you will also need to attend training at our Glasgow Head office which will require travelling by air funded by us.

Duties will include:

  • Learn how to comply with industry health, safety and environmental working practices and regulations
  • Become competent reading and understanding technical information, work in compliance with specifications and supporting documentation
  • Learn how to inspect and maintain compressors and associated equipment meet operational requirements
  • Become competent working with our experts undertaking electro-mechanical maintenance work on a range of Ingersoll Rand (and similar) industrial air compressors at client company sites
  • Learn how to undertake planned preventative maintenance
  • Become competent (working with our experts) carrying out effective breakdown maintenance on air compressor equipment
  • Learn how to undertake fault diagnosis in a logical way identifying the root causes of faults on the equipment
  • Become competent completing maintenance and equipment documentation
  • Learn how to prepare work areas ready to undertake work activities and reinstate those areas after the completion of the maintenance/service activity
  • You will eventually be able to assess and test the performance and condition of the compressors
  • Learn how to communicate effectively at handover to confirm that the appropriate engineering process has been completed to specification

Other information:

The company is located in Segensworth you must be able to get yourself onsite, on time and reliably. This is a customer orientated business teamwork takes priority. After completion of your apprenticeship you will be required to move onto work flexibly. Ideally you will need to hold a full driving licence to be able to undertake this position.

Training to be provided:

  • You will be required to attend PETA’s Havant training centre for off-the-job training. The majority of your development training will be completed with your employer at your place of work. You will be employed whilst you are completing your apprenticeship this will include 12 months of day release training at PETA Ltd where you will complete your Performing Engineering Operations training (Foundation Competence) qualification. This will include:
  • Producing components using hand fitting techniques
  • Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety 
  • Working efficiently and effectively in an engineering environment
  • Using and communicating technical information
  • Maintaining mechanical devices and equipment                   
  • Maintaining electrical equipment/systems                            
  • Producing components using hand fitting techniques
  • You will then pass through the foundation Gateway and progress onto your Level 3 development programme and complete:
  • EAL Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Maintenance
  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical)

Desired skills:

  • Excellent communications skills are required as this job entails daily contact with all personnel and the Maintenance Manager
  • This will include written communication skills enabling you to complete reports.
  • You must be able to explain problems and how they were dealt with clearly and concisely 
  • Awareness of health and safety considerations    

Personal qualities:

  • Once trained you will be able to work effectively when supervised, with the flexibility to work on your own initiative when required
  • Good eyesight and hand to eye coordination
  • Capable of working in confined spaces with unusual body postures
  • You must be able to work flexibly in respect of requirements of the post
  • Commit to further training and personal development
  • You will demonstrate an interest in MB Air and the wider manufacturing industry
  • Willing to work flexible hours including undertaking shift work in the apprenticeship

Qualifications required:

  • Minimum of 4 GCSEs or equivalent (inc Maths, English, Science) at Grade C
  • BTEC or relevant Engineering qualification is desirable
  • Other related equivalents in a relevant subject including maths or science will be looked upon favourably
