You will be trained in all aspects of electrical and electrical maintenance gaining competence to work on the wide range of the plant and equipment at customer sites in the region. You will be completing scheduled and breakdown maintenance diagnosing faults & rectifying them, always working in accordance with company health and safety procedures

Established in 1973 Knowlton & Newman have been providing a range of electro-mechanical services to a variety of customers across the southern region. They repair or replace all types of electric motors, pumps and gearboxes as well as offering a repair service on transformers and industrial electronic equipment. Duties will include:

• Learn how to work safely complying with industry health, safety and environmental working practices and regulations
• Prepare work areas to undertake work related activities and reinstate those areas after the completion of the work-related activities
• Become competent interpreting technical information, work compliance documentation and other supporting information
• Learn how to inspect and maintain plant and equipment to ensure they meet operational requirements
• Become competent undertaking electro-mechanical maintenance work on all the equipment and machinery at client company sites
• Learn how to undertake planned preventative maintenance on electro-mechanical equipment and machinery
• Once experienced you will be carrying out breakdown maintenance on mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment
• Learn how to undertake fault diagnosis in a logical way identifying the root causes of faults on the equipment on site
• Become competent completing legible maintenance and equipment documentation
• Learn how to inspect and test the performance and condition of machinery and equipment
• Communicate, handover and confirm that the appropriate engineering process has been completed to specification

Training to be provided

The scheme offers suitably motivated individuals the opportunity to complete an Engineering Apprenticeship through classroom-based activity whilst at the same time, developing the necessary skills, experience and knowledge within the workplace to become a valued member of the maintenance team.
• The company is located on an industrial estate in the SO40 postcode, you need to be able to travel here and to PETA in Portsmouth self- sufficiently.
• You will be required to attend PETA’s Havant training centre for off-the-job
This will include an initial 12 months of day release training where you will complete your Level 2 Performing Engineering Operations (Foundation Competence) qualification. This will consist of:
• Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety
• Working efficiently and effectively in an engineering environment
• Using and communicating technical information
• Maintaining mechanical devices and equipment
• Maintaining electrical equipment/systems
• Producing components using hand fitting techniques
You will then pass through the foundation Gateway and progress onto your Level 3 development programme and complete:
• BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)
• EAL Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Maintenance
The majority of your development training will be completed with your employer at your place of work.

Qualifications required:

• 5 GCSE’s at Grade C (4) or above (or equivalents) including maths, English and science
• A Btec in Engineering will be looked upon favourably
