Jade Adams

Engineering Instructor

"I value honesty and giving our future engineers the best education to better prepare them for the big world outside."

What led you to work for PETA?

I have a passion for engineering and have been working in education since I was 19 in various roles, but mostly as an engineering technician in some capacity for 7.5 years. PETA approached me offering a role allowing me to follow my chosen career path in teaching engineering to the next generation of engineers, while pushing me to upskill in my chosen field.

What is your role at PETA and what drives you to do what you do?

I am an instructor within the company in the engineering department. Seeing that lightbulb moment when a learner has learnt something new and understands something they were struggling with, as well as being able to pass my knowledge on is something that made me want to become a teacher when I was younger.

What knowledge and experience do you draw upon for your role?

From the knowledge I have gained during my time undertaking my L3 in engineering, CertEd and assessors qualifications, as well as my experience working as an engineering technician in colleges. My experience working with SEND allows me to differentiate my ability to teach different levels of learners with different needs.

How do you approach your role on a day-to-day basis? What skills are required?

With a positive and can-do attitude towards my work, always happy to help my colleagues and the learners. It is key for me to communicate well with my colleagues and the learners.

What is your teaching style?

My teaching style is demonstrating while explaining, then encouraging the learners to give it a go themselves is the best way I have found learners in engineering learn, but I will differentiate my teaching style depending on the learners to ensure they get the best chance of understanding while giving them the opportunity to ask questions.

What are you passionate about outside of work?

Going on adventures and exploring new places and ruins with my family, friends and dog, fixing things and finding out how they go together and how they work, going on camping trips and stargazing when there are clear skies or watching thunderstorms.

What are your personal values, and what is important to you?

I value honesty and giving our future engineers the best education to better prepare them for the big world outside.
