Harrison Industrial are looking for a bright, keen individual to join their administration team, providing support to the company Secretary / Administrator and Bookkeeper. This position is perfect for someone wishing to enter the world of administration and has a particular interest in finance.

Small, friendly family run business based in Rodney Road, Portsmouth. The company believes in the value of recruiting apprentices to train and develop with the company.

Since the establishment of the company in 1983 their manufacturing facilities have developed to include sheet metal fabrication in mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium and copper and heavy fabrication including structural and Architectural work in mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium.

Duties will include:

Your role will include a range of responsibilities from basic filing to taking payments from customers, answering telephone enquiries, monitoring the general email inbox and reception duties.

As part of our ongoing expansion, we are looking to appoint an Apprentice Office Administrator to undertake the following duties:

  • Welcoming guests to the office
  • Answering the phone, taking messages, transferring calls
  • Matching delivery notes and purchase orders to invoices
  • Other general office administration duties as required

Moving on to:

  • Using Sage to add new customers and supplies
  • Adding new customer orders
  • Opening Project folders

Other information:

During the first year you will complete:

  • Business Administration Apprenticeship Standard Level 3

Skills required:

Whilst a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications is preferred and previous experience in an office environment is desirable, we are happy to receive applications from school leavers with a good standard of education

  • The successful applicant will often be the first voice a customer hears so good telephone manner and call handling skills are essential
  • Applicants should be able to follow process
  • Good organisational skills
  • Experience in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
  • A desire to work with Sage or previous Sage experience
  • A desire to work within a technical environment

Personal qualities:

  • Good communications skills
  • Attention to detail

Qualifications required:

  • GCSE (or equivalent) grade C(4) or above in Maths and English is desirable


  • 20 days paid holiday and 8 statutory days holiday

Future Prospects:

  • Potential for progression onto full time employment after successful completion of the apprenticeship
