Suttle Projects Ltd. is based in Hamworthy, Poole and are a forward thinking and innovative company who are looking to support an apprentice through their learning and hopefully progress them into sustained employment.

Suttle Projects Ltd. was formed in 2008 and started with 3 employees. Now, in 2019, the company employs 36 staff members. 

They are a Principle Contractor and last year had a turnover of £10 million. The average age of the staff is mid-twenties, so they are happy to embrace new ways of thinking and help people gain the experience they need. Suttle Projects Ltd. is a proactive company who looks for solutions rather than letting problems affect them.

There is an in-built supportive culture and they very much look at cultivating the highest standards of Health & Safety and duty of care for all of their staff.

Primarily Suttle Projects Ltd. primarily deal with:

  • CFA Piling
  • Sheet Piling
  • Contracts within the railway sector
  • Civil Engineering
  • Principle contracts linked directly to Government

**With the above comes the addition of responsibility to complete work to an exacting standard which means ensuring that staff are trained and work safely, as well as enjoy what they do.

Duties will include:

Working as part of a small proactive and friendly team, the successful candidate will be undertaking their part in learning about Health & Safety, communicating this to employees, and keeping updated with legislation.

There will be some 'field' work so visiting sites to check that staff wellbeing is monitored as well as safe working practice. (Transport to sites can be arranged)

  • Actively promoting and monitoring safety culture within the workplace and on site
  • Communicating with the team and wider workforce
  • Keeping up to date with legislation
  • Analysing data
  • Compiling reports
  • Sourcing information to be published in the quarterly newsletter
  • Manage processes
  • Investigate incidents
  • Providing accurate advice suitable for the tasks
  • Identifying hazards
  • Understanding theories for incident prevention
  • Learning and understanding company policy of safety and well being
  • Being instrumental in coming up with new initiatives for safety/wellbeing in the workplace

Other information:

  • Suttle Projects Ltd. would prefer the successful candidate to either hold a full driving license or have a willingness to learn to drive within 12 months of completing the apprenticeship.

Skills required:

The successful candidate should possess the following in addition to a passion for ensuring people are safe and happy.

  • Proficient in IT (Microsoft packages)
  • Good standard of English and maths
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Attention to detail
  • Able to implement what is being learnt to the workplace in an effective manner
  • Investigative and inquisitive
  • Able to formulate appropriate questions to reach conclusions

Desired qualifications

  • The successful candidate should ideally hold GCSE 4 (C) or above (or Level 2 Functional Skill) in both English and maths.


  • On successful completion of the Level 3 Health and Safety apprenticeship there will be opportunity to progress

Future prospects

  • Suttle Projects Ltd. wish to train an Apprentice and then potentially progress them to further training courses or a Higher Apprenticeship and ultimately sustained employment as part of the team.
