Working within various departments within Portsmouth Aviation Ltd, the successful apprentice will be providing administrative support to help with smooth operational performance. Within this comprehensive role there will be the opportunity to learn a range of skills whilst rotating through different areas of the business.

With over 90 years’ experience in Mechanical Engineering, Portsmouth Aviation Ltd provides a complete engineering solution to AS 9100 Rev. D and ISO 9001: 20015 standards, from design and development, qualification, trials and certification to manufacture or mass production of the finished product

Duties will include:

Rotating through various departments such as Technical, Production, Quality, Legal, and Supply Chain, the apprentice will be providing administrative support as well as learning about this fast-paced environment. This is a great opportunity to learn a variety of skills related to the business and get a real feel for how Portsmouth Aviation Ltd operates.

  • Learn and understand material requirement planning (MRP)
  • Learn and understand how to use in house computer suite IFS – data input, data integrity, capacity planning and scenario planning
  • Learn Supply Chain processes
  • Assist the Legal team in day to day activities
  • Assist the Quality Manager with Quality Procedure Amendments
  • Assist various production departments with day to day activities
  • Board/Management Meetings (attend/take minutes/provide information for)
  • Data management in IFS
  • Learn Technical Office procedures and understand how products are developed and the importance of documented evidence
  • Learn key principles of Configuration Management
  • Assist Project Managers with management and administration of live projects

Other information:

  • The duration of the Business Administrator Level 3 Apprenticeship will be up to 15 months.

Skills required:

  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to produce accurate documents
  • English language qualification (GCSE Grade 4 or C or equivalent)
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritise workload
  • Good level of English, both written and spoken
  • Excellent communication and the ability to liaise with different people so that work is completed to timescales specified
  • Have excellent working knowledge of IT packages, such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Qualifications required:

  • GCSE 4 (Grade C) and above or equivalent in both English and maths or Functional Skills Level 2
  • Desirable: IT related qualification or training


  • 25 days holiday per year plus 8 statutory public holiday days

Future Prospects:

  • For the right candidate there will be the opportunity to secure employment or progress on to another apprenticeship upon successful completion of the Business Administrator Apprenticeship
