The IT Support Technician will report directly to the IT Manager. Primary responsibility is the day-to-day running, support and maintenance of the IT system and IT infrastructure across the entire park.

Marwell Zoo is a 140-acre zoo situated at Owslebury near Winchester. It is owned and run by the registered charity Marwell Wildlife. The zoo is home to over 1,200 animals of 135 species.

Duties will include:

The successful candidate will be someone who is willing to learn, be enthusiastic, and can convey clear communication and support to technical and non-technical staff and be a good listener. You must have the ability to be able to work alone and have the confidence to make decisions in the absence of the IT Manager.

You will be someone who can ultimately maximise the IT department's contribution to the entire organisation.

Full training will be available where required. A full driving licence and own transport is advisable due to the location.

You will contribute to the provision of IT services within Marwell Wildlife.  Assist the user community with issues and queries.  Contribute to and undertake new projects as well as liaison with external hardware and software suppliers.

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Specify, order, build, install PC hardware and software as needed – conforming to organisation standards for software and hardware.
  • Maintain common services such as AV, access control, radios, servers, EPOS, CRM
  • Support Park network with installation and configuration of hardware
  • Assist users with software and hardware issues
  • Maintain Park security standards
  • Providing support to users via, telephone and in-person at multiple locations on site.
  • Troubleshooting faults, monitoring performance and resource usage of servers and network.
  • Maintaining virtual and physical server operations, hardware/software updates and infrastructure changes.
  • Install, administer and support network services. E.g. Anti-Virus, VoIP telephone system.
  • Support IT projects where required.
  • Maintaining and updating appropriate procedural IT documentation.

Skills required:

In order to be suitable for this position, the ideal candidate should have the following:

  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully within a team and lone environment.
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks at once while being able to react/adapt to changing priorities.
  • A positive and engaging attitude and the ability to simplify and explain complex technical solutions.
  • Ability to work a flexible, off hours schedule to accommodate maintenance windows. Willingness to work shift patterns if required.
  • Practical DIY Skills
  • Some scripting or coding experience
  • MS SQL Server
  • Windows networks including MS Exchange email
  • CAT5/5e cabling installation
  • DELL server and PC hardware
  • IPv4 familiarity including DNS,DHCP
  • CISCO IOS on switches

Qualifications required:

  • 5 GCSE Grades C-A (4-9) or equivalent
