Duties will include:

Cougar Engineers use specialist software to design industrial control systems. You will be assisting the IT Manager in the day-to-day support of these engineers.

  • In this role you will learn to build IT equipment to company standards, troubleshoot incidents and resolve problems.
  • Install and configure new equipment as well as add and support virtual cloud-based systems into the existing network
  • You will be learning and gaining knowledge and skills in the setup, troubleshooting and repair of PC’s and Laptops.
  • You will learn how to administer users and computers in an Active Directory environment.
  • You will learn the monitoring of the network infrastructure of the presently six office locations.
  • Telephone and remote desktop support to company engineers.
  • Can occasionally travel with the IT manager staying overnight at other company office locations facilitating locally required infrastructure tasks.
  • Can occasionally be required to work at the weekend to make infrastructure changes.

Other information

  • You may be required, on occasion, to work at one of Cougars other sites located in Waterlooville, Wakefield, Warrington, Coventry, Bristol and Kent.

Skills required:

  • Effective communication skills to enable you to complete written and verbal reports.
  • You must be able to troubleshoot and explain problems and how they will be overcome clearly and concisely, to users with varying technical understanding and skills.
  • Awareness of health and safety considerations.
  • The ability to learn new skills quickly and sometimes at your own volition.
  • You will need to be productive, self-motivated and patient.

Personal qualities

  • You need to be focused, self-driven and possess a ‘can do’ attitude.
  • You must have a ‘continuous improvement’ mindset and a strong desire to develop your skillsets.
  • A methodical approach to problem solving and testing is required.

Qualifications required

  • Grade C/4 or above in GCSE maths, English and ICT
  • Any IT related coursework

Future Prospects:

  • This opportunity is for an apprenticeship with an expected duration of 18 months. There may well be an opportunity for the continuation of the training to the Level 4 Network Engineer, should you excel in this role
