Do you have a love for the marine environment? Are you interested in IT systems? Then we may have the job for you. Based in Alton, Hampshire, we are looking for an enthusiastic and hardworking individual to assist with Service transferring and system creation, data processing using both Microsoft Office products and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) along with other IT tasks necessary for a successful business.

OceanWise uses IT systems called Geographic Information Systems to develop Data and Software Products for users in the marine industries – from commercial companies to government agencies. We specialise in creating and managing marine data products which are used worldwide.

Duties will include:

  • Use a variety of coding languages and frameworks in the creation, improvement and Maintenance of web Based systems and services, including managing the OceanWise website
  • Use a variety of IT software for a range of tasks relating to the creation and analysis of marine datasets, both OceanWise produced datasets and data from client projects.
  • Use both GIS and specialist software to process OceanWise marine data products. 
  • Provide technical support to end users and log this information using a ticketing system once knowledge of the products is at an appropriate level.
  • Develop good data management skills and apply these to all aspects of their work
  • Have the opportunity to learn database skills.

Skills required:

Knowledge of the following would be an advantage:

  • Geographical Information Systems
  • An aptitude for writing computer programs
  • Microsoft Office Applications
  • Basic Html and CSS Knowledge
  • Structured Query Language (SQL)

  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Able to spot potential problems and act accordingly
  • Able to work using own initiative
  • Demonstrate excellent written/verbal communication skills
  • Able work both independently and as part of a team

  • Aptitude for learning and willingness to develop skills

Qualifications required:

  • 5 GCSE’s or equivalent at grade A*-C (Grade 4 to 9) including English and Maths
  • 3 A Levels at grade C or above desirable
