This Junior Software Developer apprentice will be supervised by our lead for software development who is completing his PHD in Neural Network Architecture and System Development, who started himself through a passion of computer science. The office is comprised of a small team of close colleagues and has a collaborative and informal atmosphere of young, like-minded technical people.

The apprentice will be working with embedding systems in UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) and setting up and configuring drone hardware and software. You will be learning to configure Linux systems and installing coding libraries.

Motion Robotics is an R&D company focused on the development of high efficiency electric motors. They are currently using drones as a platform to showcase these motors. The company is a small agile business directed by Dr Majoe, who has employed some capable post grads to support the three main areas of engineering expertise. These are electronic design and build, mechanical design and build and control software coding. The business utilises rapid prototyping for the manufacture of the mechanical components including the drone chassis and propeller blades

Duties will include:

  •  Working with embedded systems in UAVs
  •  Setting up and configuring drone hardware and software
  • Configuring Linux systems and installing coding libraries
  •  Writing python and C/C++ code and tests
  • Writing documentation describing others or own code

Other Information

  • Interview date TBC and will not be held until 4 weeks after lockdown is lifted

Skills required:

  • You will be organised and work in a tidy and professional manner
  • Have excellent attention to detail
  • Good interpersonal and written writing skills
  • Have good numerical, logical and analytical skills
  • Computer literate
  • Experience of working directly with customers would be a great asset
  • Experience even if limited with using Python
