KSM Telecoms are currently looking to recruit a Level 3 Infrastructure Technician apprentice to manage the company’s network of services that they provide to their customers. The apprentice ill be taught the full suite of KSM Telecoms products and services portfolio to encompass the job role.

KSM Telcom, founded in early 2016, has grown rapidly and now has a portfolio of 135 clients for whom it provides fully managed, hosted telecoms and IT services. These are provided as multi-year subscriptions services and KSM Telecom is looking for an apprentice engineer to manage the companies network of services that they provide to their customers.

Duties will include:

On-Premises deployment

  • Commissioning broadband circuits at customers’ premises including:
    • Direct fibre circuits
    • FTTP/FTTC and ADSL
    • Router deployment and configuration
    • Fault diagnosis and rectification
    • PoE Switches
  • Deployment and commissioning KSM’s hosted telephone system
    • Voice VLAN
    • LLDP
    • QoS
    • Deploying telephone equipment on desks and integrating, as required, with other desktop equipment (PCs, printers etc)
    • User training
      De-snagging, fault diagnosis and rectification. This will include making repairs to structured wiring
  • Deployment and commissioning Wi-Fi systems including:
    • Wireless surveys
    • AP deployment and installation
    • De-snagging, fault diagnosis and rectification. This will include repairs to structured wiring
  • IT Support
    • On premise support of KSM supported equipment such as PCs, Laptops, printers etc

Desk-based support
When not deployed in the field, the apprentice engineer will be required to be home/office based to provide online and telephone technical support to KSM customers. Desk based support will include all the areas as covered in On Premises Deployment as detail above. Furthermore, KSM’s Technical Director will teach the apprentice engineer in the following products and services but not limited to:

  • Microsoft full suite of products
    • Azure
    • Office 365
    • Programming
    • Deployment of licenses and cloud server-based products
    • License activation
  • BT Wholesale Hosted Portal, products and services
  • HVS – Hosted Voice Services
    • Programming and deployment
    • Handset provisioning
  • Wi-Fi installation, deployment and installation
  • Remote monitoring and fault finding
  • Peassler Remote Management software

Other information:

  • You will need to hold a full driving license and your own vehicle for this to be able to visit customer sites to undertake the work
  • Within 21 months you will complete the Infrastructure Technician Apprenticeship Level 3 along with the following external qualificaitons:
    • Microsoft (MTA) Networking Fundamentals
    • Microsoft (MTA) Mobility and device Fundamentals
    • Microsoft (MTA) Server Admin
    • Microsoft (MTA) Software development Fundamentals
    • ITIL Foundation V4

Skills required:

  • A very keen interest in IT and technology
  • The ability to learn quickly
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Excellent telephone manner
  • Ability to explain technology and technical content to a non-technical audience.

Qualifications required:

  • GCSE English Grades A* - C (9 – 4) or Functional Skills Level 2 in English
  • GCSE Maths Grades A* - C (9-4) or Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths
  • Level 3 Diploma in IT – knowledge of networking and servers
