The Coaching Professional Apprenticeship develops skilled coaches who support personal and team growth

Who is it for?

The Coaching Professional Apprenticeship is aimed at those who support personal or team development, improve performance and help people navigate change through structured coaching within professional settings. The apprenticeship programme is designed to support these individuals to develop and build on their coaching skills.

You need to be supported by your employer and typically you will have a Grade C / 4 or higher in at least 5 GCSE's including English and Maths.

What will I learn?

Whilst undertaking this apprenticeship you will gain a wealth of knowledge and skills undertaking a key role within your company. In addition you will achieve the following qualifications:

  • Coaching Professional Level 5 Apprenticeship
  • English Functional Skills Level 2 (if required)
  • Maths Functional Skills Level 2 (if required)

When can I start?

The Coaching Professional Apprenticeship begins multiple times throughout the year, get in touch with us to find out when the next cohort starts.

This programme can only be undertaken by those who are already employed in a position which meets the criteria above. Typical job titles include; Business Coach, Coaching Professional, Learning and Development Coach.

Course Overview

This apprenticeship develops the knowledge, skills, behaviours and attitudes of staff in the following business critical areas:

  • Theories of learning and reflective practice
  • The theories of emotional and social intelligence
  • People and team management models
  • The importance of coaching contracting and re-contracting, and models enabling its effectiveness
  • The theory of organisational culture
  • Coaching theory, including code of conduct within the coaching process 
  • Methods of communication including verbal / non-verbal / building rapport / matching and mirroring. Listening skills, including levels of listening. 
  • Theories of increasing self-awareness and the journey from unconscious incompetence to unconscious competence
  • Evaluation: theories of return on investment and delivery of value
  • The differences and similarities between coaching, mentoring, training, counselling and consulting
  • Relevant legislation and codes of ethics described by the main professional bodies
  • The existence of a range of coaching models and techniques
Additional Information

During your apprenticeship you will receive:

  • An induction to the programme to make you feel welcome and to help you understand how the apprenticeship works
  • Day release training at our Training Centre to help build your knowledge and skills
  • Access to CMI Management Direct online learning hub
  • Regular progress reviews to help with your development and to ensure you remain on track to successfully complete your apprenticeship

The vast majority of your learning will be undertaken whilst you are working. In order to successfully achieve the apprenticeship 20% of the teaching, learning and development will be undertaken through off-the-job training which takes place at our PETA Training Centre in Cosham, Portsmouth.
