"Strive to be the best you can be and make the most of every opportunity."
What led you to work at PETA?
I attended Petersfield School but unsure what to do after taking my O Levels decided to stay on for another year in the 6th form to learn office skills including touch typing. My first job after leaving school was with a local builders merchants working in their accounts department inputting data and was given the opportunity to progress to Secretary to 3 directors. I have worked in administration ever since in varying environments from chartered accountants through to transport.
In 2004, I was looking for a new challenge and I saw the vacancy advertised by PETA, it ticked all the boxes, so I applied and got the job! During my time with PETA, the organisation has recognised my ability and potential and given me the opportunity and encouragement to broaden my knowledge and provide me with the relevant training to enhance my skills and take on additional responsibilities.
What is your role at PETA and what drives you to do what you do?
It is a varied role including updating our customer relationship management system and company intranet, membership management including communicating with customers, ensuring compliance of the numerous awarding bodies accreditation held by PETA, conducting internal audits and co-ordinating external audits, procurement, management of contractors and site maintenance. I enjoy the variety my role provides me with, no two days are the same!
What knowledge or experience do you draw upon for your role?
In my role, it is imperative to have a good attention to detail, be able to listen and value the opinions of others, be able to communicate well with colleagues, customers and suppliers. I have learnt through experience that rushing a task nearly always results in mistakes and how important it is that work is checked.
How do you approach your role on a day-to-day basis? What skills are required?
Keep a “To Do List” every day – it doesn’t always go to plan though! Ability to multitask and understand priorities and ask questions if I am not sure.
What are you passionate about outside of work?
Spending quality time with the family and friends.
What are your personal values, and what is important to you?
Honesty and integrity. Make everyday count as you never know what tomorrow may bring.
