Susan Harrison

Learning and Development Coach

"I love helping people see their own potential and overcome barriers."

What is your role at PETA and what drives you to do what you do?

I am a Learning and Development Coach. I believe coaching and mentoring expands potential.
My favourite analogy to describe my job is like the growth of a garden. Giving my learners encouragement and watching them grow. The beauty in the garden in the end drives me to do my best in helping my learners.

What knowledge/experience do you draw upon for your role?

I left school with little confidence not really knowing what I wanted to do and was frightened to try anything new in case I failed but having been influenced by one of my mentors early on in my career who taught me what FAIL stands for First Action In Learning – I now believe that you can do anything if you put your mind to it.

How do you approach your role on a day-to-day basis? What skills are required?

I love people, I love it when you are coaching someone to do something and the penny drops. I love helping people see their own potential and over come barriers. I am patient and see everyone as an individual so I will have an individual approach to everyone.

What are you passionate about outside of work?

Other than my daughters, my family and my rescued cats I love swimming. I swim at my local Leisure Centre several times a week and I am extremely proud to say that a few years ago I gained my open water Diver – PADI Certificate.

What are your personal values, and what is important to you?

Trust, kindness, respect.
