Aiden Howard

ICT Support Technician

"I’ve always had a passion for computers which led to me starting my ICT Support Technician Apprenticeship with PETA."

What led you to work for PETA?

Since a young age I have always had an interest in computers which lead me to building my own when I was 14. Using this computer, I taught myself HTML and learnt how to use Photoshop to create graphics for websites. I then went on to study digital media at college and went on further to study it at university because I really enjoyed the creative side and getting hands on with creating websites. I struggled with the learning at university, so I left and decided to look at other options. I then found an apprenticeship at PETA that allowed me to explore more about how computer networks are set up and maintained within a business which also allowed for me to build customer relationships working face-to-face troubleshooting issues.

What is your role at PETA and what drives you to do what you do?

My role at PETA is to help support and maintain the network and to also work with customers to support them with their IT needs and resolve any technical issues that may occur. I also need to ensure that PETA’s security is kept to a high standard to prevent any malicious attacks on our network.

This job is great because every day I wake up not knowing what issues I will be faced with, and I need to tackle these to support the user. What drives me to do what I do is seeing the customers satisfaction when they are happy with the service I have provided.

What knowledge or experience do you draw upon for your role?

I’ve always had a passion for computers which led to me starting my Level 3 IT Infrastructure Technician Apprenticeship with PETA, and it was through the apprenticeship that I learned the technical skills that allowed me to develop in my role. Learning on the job through an apprenticeship really helped me to gain practical experience every day and I’ve learnt so much in the past 2 years considering I had no previous experience in this particular role.

How do you approach your role on a day-to-day basis? What skills are required?

I provide strong communication and organisation skills which aid my ability to multitask and deal with pressured situations whilst still meeting deadlines.

What are you passionate about outside of work?

Outside of work I enjoy playing and watching football and enjoy playing games.

What are your personal values, and what is important to you?

Loyalty.
