Jack Martin

Trainee Engineering Instructor

"What drives me the most is my self-preservation to not only improve my teaching skills, but also my drive to want my future students to become the best they can be with my guidance."

What led you to work for PETA?

My background as an individual is that I was born and bred in Portsmouth and lived there for 25 years. When I turned 16, I went straight into the apprenticeship scheme. The college of my choice was none other than PETA itself. I started off in a Level 1 fabrication and welding course and the course at the time was to help young teenagers/adults find an employer to take them on, while also getting the required skills for that job. I managed to get a job in metal spinning and then continued to do a Level 2 welding course, Level 2 & 3 CNC milling and turning. Level 3 manual turning and milling.

After my apprenticeship I got offered a supervising training role within that company and left after 10 years of service. I then moved away to the big city of London for 2 years to work as a train mechanic however I moved to London to also broaden my world view on culture and in all honesty, I just loved the hustle and bustle of the big city. Soon after that I got homesick and decided to settle my roots back down in Portsmouth.

What is your role at PETA and what drives you to do what you do?

My role at PETA Ltd is a Trainee Instructor and the role I have is an all-rounder. And what drives me the most is my self-preservation to not only improve my teaching skills, but also my drive to want my future students to become the best they can be with my guidance.

What knowledge and experience do you draw upon for your role?

Due to my background in metal spinning and train maintenance I am multiskilled in welding (Mig, Tig, Stick, Arc) metal spinning manual & CNC and maintenance of machinery (skill which was acquired through my train technician role)

How do you approach your role on a day-to-day basis? What skills are required?

My current role as a trainee is to observe the experienced instructors and note down their valuable teaching methods. However, my skills can assist them such as IT knowledge to set up the large TVs and help with errors on the PCs

What are you passionate about outside of work?

My passion outside of work is most things related to PCs. Such as building, repairing, software troubleshooting and the games that I can play on the PC. I’m a fan of resource management and factory games.

What are your personal values, and what is important to you?

My main personal value is that I make sure I wake up every day with a positive mindset and try to tackle every problem head on. Another value of mine would be to always give back which I get from other people such as, a co-worker treating me in a positive manner. I would match that energy and add more to let them know I appreciate the kindness.
